Leitch Technology Corp. has named Stan Kabala as interim president/CEO. The Rogers Communications and Unitel veteran replaces Margaret Craig, who has resigned. The Toronto firm has also appointed Salil Munjal as COO. He had been VP corporate development and once served as general counsel for the company.

Readers split on proposal for Communications Department
Respondents to the most recent Decima Publishing Reader Poll are divided on the question of re-establishing a federal Department of Communications. Nearly 41% rejected the idea, with an identical number endorsing the proposal. Another 19% were undecided.

On July 16th, 2003 the CRTC released a new policy directive that will result in a cut to the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund of 40% and a major cut to the Shaw Fund for children’s programming starting immediately. This is as a result of a decision that will allow DTH contributions to be diverted away from supporting independent producers projects financed through programs like the Bell Fund and the Shaw Fund, and instead re-allocate this funding to support the programming initiatives of private Canadian broadcasters.
