Quebecor Media Inc. said Wednesday it added 77,700 digital cable TV subscribers during the third quarter of 2011. Quebecor said in a release that it was the strongest quarterly growth for its cable television division since March 1999 and the strongest growth for digital cable since its launch. With a net increase of 43,500 cable television customers, Quebecor said its penetration rate grew to 73.1 per cent in the third quarter. The company said that subsidiary Videotron Ltd. added 168,700 subscribers, up 79.9 per cent from last year’s third quarter. “Videotron Ltd. has recorded the largest quarterly customer growth since its acquisition by Quebecor Media in 2000,” Quebecor said. In the release, Quebecor said that, as of Sept. 30, 2011, the company had a total of 253,900 subscriber connections to Videotron’s mobile wireless network. Of those connections, 181,200 were new connections and 72,700 were migrations from the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service, the company said. Quebecor said revenues grew by $44.9 million or 4.6 per cent from the third quarter of 2010, reaching $1.01 billion. The company added that its Internet cable access grew by 39,900 in the third quarter of 2011, the largest subscriber growth in three years. Its mobile telephone service experienced the largest quarterly growth since its launch as well, reporting a net increase of 47,500 customers. The company said that its cable telephone service also experienced its largest growth in the past two years with a net increase of 37,800 customers in the third quarter.
