Bell Aliant Inc. will sell $200 million in preferred shares to a syndicate of banks to help repay short-term debt and for other purposes, the company said Wednesday.

Cogeco Cable Inc. acquired 96.57 per cent of the outstanding shares of Peer 1 Network Enterprises Inc. and is working to acquire the remaining shares as part of its plan to purchase the network infrastructure company, Cogeco said in a release Wednesday.
