VPNs facing barriers in Australia, New Zealand

A new bill in Australian parliament could block virtual private networks (VPNs), while Internet service providers in New Zealand could face lawsuits for a VPN-like service, two articles in the Guardian said. The British newspaper reported Monday that four of New Zealand’s major broadcasters have “confirmed they are preparing legal action” against two ISPs “on the basis of breach of copyright.” Both ISPs offer a “global mode” to users, which allows them to access content that isn’t available in New Zealand, such as the U.S. version of Netflix...
