Brian Katz has left Telefilm Canada's Toronto office to become VP of business development and executive producer of content for Infopreneur, a Toronto-based Internet entertainment provider. The company, with a staff of 60, creates IT, sports and entertainment-lifestyle content for the Internet. Katz, who started March 6, says he's replicated his former position with Telefilm, "except I'm in the marketplace now." Daphne Gelbart and Hashim Mitha have been appointed to head up InVentures Incubator Inc, a new business incubator for online education start-ups. (See brief on page 4). Gelbart has six years of experience at Simon Fraser University's industry liaison office and 10 years of industrial experience in information technology. Mitha recently worked with the start-up company, youachieve.com, a personal development web site focusing on online education. Bob Skene, CEO of the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre (VIATeC), was awarded this year's Hyperion Award at the University of Victoria's New Media conference, held last month in Victoria. During his 10 years at VIATeC, Skene helped grow the organization to 400 members and a budget of $700,000. He now plans to retire later this year. The Hyperion Award recognizes excellence in the development and support of new media. Jeremy Jonas has been appointed president/COO of Peachtree Network, a Montreal-based online grocery retailer. Jonas takes over the position of president from Gregory Kalinin, who will continue as the company's CEO. Previously, Jonas served as senior engagement manager at McKinsey & Company. Paul Bristow has resigned as president and CFO of the online travel company Uniglobe.com Inc. He has also resigned from the board of directors to move to a non-travel related financial services company. Michel Timperio has been named VP sales for ArtQuest International Alliances Inc of Montreal. Timperio has over 15 years experience in the graphics arts industry, including as president of Unic Graphic Arts Ltd. Telemedia Corp has reorganized following its decision in January to sell its magazine publishing division to GTC Transcontinental Group for $150 million. François de Gaspé Beaubien, formerly president of the publishing division of Telemedia Communications Inc, becomes co-president and co-CEO of Telemedia Corp. He will share these functions with his brother Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien III who is currently president and COO of Société Gasbeau, the de Gaspé Beaubien family holding company, which has been renamed Telemedia Corp. Louise Roy remains president and CEO of Telemedia Communications until the end of August, overseeing the sale of the publishing division to GTC Transcontinental Group and the transfer of operations to the new management structure. She will continue with the company as a board member of Telemedia Corp and its subsidiary, Telemedia Radio Inc. Hubert Lacroix, who chaired Telemedia's board in addition to being a senior partner of the law firm McCarthy Tétrault, becomes full-time chair of Telemedia Corp and Telemedia Radio Inc. Telemedia Radio Inc will be led by Claude Beaudoin as president and CEO.
