Netgraphe acquires Editions Ma CarrièreNetgraphe Inc, Montreal, has completed its acquisition of Editions Ma Carrière, a publisher of reference books on employment, training and career management. In addition, Netgraphe, which already owned 75%, has also acquired full ownership of Jobboom Inc, operator of Jobboom.com. Company executives say its new ownership of both companies will allow it to become the uncontested leader in the job-exchange field on the Internet. Since the launch of Jobboom.com last December, e-commerce sales have grown 425% from December 1999 to March this year. Microforum bolsters content delivery abilitiesToronto-based Microforum Inc is buying a technology to make web content available to multiple types of devices. The company has entered into a non-binding letter of intent to acquire certain assets of flashCast Communications Corp, including its proprietary XML-based CEPort mobile content technology. As part of the transaction, Microforum will hire key personnel of flashCast, including its president, Paul Scholz, who will direct Microforum's Advanced Wireless Research laboratory to be based in Bellevue WA. Globalvacation promises launch of travel site soonVictoria-based GLS Global Assets Ltd is anticipating the launch soon of its new search engine portal for Internet travel and recreation websites worldwide (global-vactionnet.com). Company executives say the site will facilitate access to websites relating to specific recreation activities and products, which they say are currently difficult to reach. The development plan calls for a major broad-scale test of the site this month and next, and contacting over 100,000 potential clients to test the marketing plan. Multiactive and ACA Pacific strike marketing dealMultiactive Software Inc, Toronto, announced that its Asia Pacific subsidiary, abc Multiactive Ltd, and ACA Pacific Technology have entered into an agreement for ACA to become a distributor for Multiactive's e-business and customer relationship management software products for the Asian Pacific region. Mosaic Group invests in Medium OneMosaic Group Inc, Toronto, has taken a 52% equity interest in Toronto-based interactive agency Medium One Productions Inc. Mosaic is an outsourced marketing services agency, and will use the Medium One stake to expand its e-marketing offering to clients. Medium One has 45 employees in Toronto and Montreal. It builds strategic interactive products and marketing materials for clients such as Royal Bank of Canada, Classwave Wireless and Chapters. Its revenues are expected to surpass $4 million in 2000. Cancom and TD Bank to collaborate on learningCancom Learning Solutions has been chosen by the TD Bank Financial Group to enhance TD's private broadcast network of 175 interactive sites to meet its training and communications requirements. TD will use Cancom's Star Choice DTH small dish platform to facilitate video, audio and data interaction between instructors and students across Canada. WebSeduction appears to be living up to its nameWebSeduction Inc, a "virtual people connection community", now has over 50,000 members. The milestone confirms the company's position as French Canada's largest virtual community. Company officials say it hopes to attract close to 300,000 people in Canada, the US and Europe by April 2001. It is also one of the 12 most popular sites in Quebec. Big Picture developing ecom tools for MacBig Picture Technologies Inc, Calgary, is developing a version of its eMerchant pro product for users of the Apple Macintosh computer. The software allows for the development of interactive electronic commerce sites. There are over 40 million Apple users worldwide. Canoe finalizes deal to acquire imoney.comCANOE Limited has reached an agreement to acquire the Canadian operations of financial web site imoney.com. CANOE will integrate imoney's personal financial online services with the broad financial information content of CANOE Money. Netscape 6 launches language translationNetscape Communications and Montreal-based Alis Technologies Inc have developed the Netscape 6 browser to offer Auto-Translate, a new feature allowing automatic translation of web pages via Alis Technologies' Gist-In-Time online translation software. AutoTranslate enables Netscape 6 users to access global content on the Internet by taking a web page written in a foreign language and having it translated seconds later into the language of their choice, based on 14 language pairs available today. Netgraphe loses key domain names to entrepreneurNetgraphe Inc, Quebec's answer to Yahoo!, has let a key piece of web real estate slip through its fingers. Web surfers who happen upon it by mistake could be in for a porno-graphic eyeful. A site mimicking Netgraphe's La Toile du Quebec, one of the province's most popular web destinations with an estimated 80,000 daily visitors, has been set up with a URL similar to La Toile de Quebec. The fake site is a directory with links to search engines, stock-market data and erotic pictures. Martin Boyer, who dabbles in web design and runs a small business selling discount computers out of his east-end basement, set up the site, and says he will sell the domain name to Netgraphe for $250,000. RCMP can't keep up with BC web fraudstersFrustrated RCMP investigators in Vancouver's commercial crime section are being forced to reject nearly 80 per cent of reported cyberspace cases due to a lack of resources, a member of the technological unit says. Corporal Bruce Imrie says the Vancouver technological unit, which has just a few officers, is handling about 50 cyberspace cases, which he said is stretching its limited funding and manpower. SUMmedia.com hammers out ad deal with Go2NetSUMmedia.com, Vancouver, has signed an advertising deal with Go2Net. Under the agreement, links to several SUMmedia.com sites will be featured throughout the Go2Net networks, and the network will also make eCoupons from SUMmedia.com's savingumoney.com available to more than 800,000 member businesses of the HyperMart Network.
