Maxim Jean-Louis has been added to the review panel of ORION, the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network. He is the president of the Collège des Grands Lacs in Toronto.  Ron Waite, a 26-year veteran of Island Tel, has been named regional VP (PEI) and VP carrier services for Aliant. He succeeds Philip Acorn, the president and COO of Island Tel, which was merged into Aliant. Acorn will work on special assignment until November when he will retire. Darren Entwistle is the new president and CEO of Telus Corp. The Montrealer was most recently president of Cable & Wireless UK and Ireland. He has also worked for Bell Canada and Bell Canada International. Rick Babington has been appointed VP business development for Norigen Communications Inc. Most recently VP new business ventures and business process reengineering at MTS, he has also worked at Bell Canada and AT&T Canada. Futureway Communications Inc has introduced three new members of its management team. Elaine Leung, late of the CRTC, is the VP strategic planning. Bell veteran Carlo Di Gioacchino is the new VP corporate affairs while Apollo Guy is the VP sales and marketing. He has experience at Bell, ExpressVu and Rogers Cablesystems. Bryan Walkey is the new senior VP of sales and services at C1 Communications. He joins the company from Global Crossing Conferencing where he served in Denver and in Canada. Axxent Inc, the former Optel Communications, has named Tony Schultz as senior VP engineering. He comes to Axxent from Microcell Connexions Inc and formerly worked at AT&T Canada, Bell Mobility, Rogers Cablesystems and Bell Canada. The company also announced that Norbert Dawalibi has been appointed president and CEO of Rhythms Canada Inc. Rhythms Canada is a joint venture between the CLEC and Rhythms NetConnections Inc. Salil Munjal has left the Toronto law firm Torys to become VP and general counsel to Leitch Technology Corp. The M&A specialist has degrees from the University of Toronto and Queen's University. Jeffrey Rosenthal is the new president of FOCC Fiber Optics Corporation of Canada Inc, a subsidiary of Universe2U Inc. He previously served as managing principal for Utility Solutions Corp. Senator Michael Kirby has taken a leave of absence from the Senate subcommittee on communications, which is conducting a major study of telecommunications.
