Jacques Bensimon, former managing director of TFO, has been appointed executive VP of the Banff Television Festival. Bensimon left TFO following a dispute over the vision for Ontario’s pubic broadcaster. Doug Beeforth has been appointed VP and GM of Sportsnet. Beeforth has been a key player on the Canadian sports broadcasting scene for many years. He spearheaded the original licence applications for Sportsnet. Beeforth has been with CTV Sports for the past 10 years. Su Grimmer has been appointed acting VP, sales, and marketing, for Vancouver-based Medbroadcast Corp. Grimmer brings 20 years of experience in television, radio, and communications, and was most recently a programming and new business consultant to CanWest Global Communications Corp. Prior to that, she was acting senior VP for Alliance Broadcasting Inc (now Alliance Atlantis Communications). Global Television’s entertainment icon, Bob McAdorey, will retire on July 28. A member of the Global on-air team since 1976 McAdorey gained fame as one of the network’s "three nice guys" on the News at Noon. He anchored CanWest’s Entertainment Desk for six years and is now seen covering entertainment for Global’s evening news. McAdorey had a 40-year career in the Toronto media, first as a rock DJ on top-rated CHUM , then on Global. The Specialty and Premium Television Association has appointed a new board: Elaine Ali, president, WTN; Rick Brace, president, TSN; Shan Chandrasekar, president & CEO, Asian Television Network International Ltd.; Len Cochrane, president, Family Channel; Gilles Desjardins, director, business development, RDI; Lisa De Wilde, president and CEO, Astral Television Networks; Chris Frank, senior VP, government and regulatory affairs, BCE Media; Fil Fraser (chair), president & CEO, Vision TV; Jane Logan, president and CEO; Lisa Lyons, VP, distribution and affiliate relations, Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting; Pierre Morrissette, president & CEO, The Weather Network; Ed Robinson, VP and GM, Comedy Network & VP, comedy and variety programming, CTV Inc; Pierre Roy, president & CEO, Les Chaînes Télé-Astral; and Phyllis Yaffe, president, Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting.
