Norigen Communications Inc has again strengthened its management team by appointing Robert Demers as VP sales for the Quebec region. Demers brings more than 20 years of telecom experience and will be responsible for positioning the company for an accelerated growth in the Quebec and Ottawa markets. His strong leadership is in high demand and he will play a key role in delivering Norigen’s One source services to the small- and medium-sized enterprise market. Prior to joining Norigen, Demers was the managing director for Winstar International in Argentina where he led the launch of the start up company. He has also held several senior level positions with a wide range of telecommunications companies including Bell Canada, Bell Mobility and CellStar Corp. Norigen has also named Andres Schneiter to the position of VP of wireless engineering and will have the responsibility of developing Norigen’s wireless program as well as the design and deployment of its network on a national basis. His 25 years experience and leadership in designing and deploying wireless networks will be a formidable asset as the company rolls out its national wireless network. Prior to joining Norigen, he led his own consulting organization AFS Microwave in British Columbia. Previously, he was senior director of the wireless communications division at MRP Teltech with the responsibility for leading four business units: microwave radio, satellite, mobile data and emergency communications. Vancouver-based eDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc has expanded its upper management ranks and appointed Lloyd Kearl as its CFO. With more than 30 years experience, Kearl brings a wealth of corporate know-ledge of the American and global markets. He has managed a broad range of mandates for the likes of Dynapro, Teknetics and ISC Systems Corp, among others. The company also announced that former CFO Don Schick has taken over the position of VP corporate development where he will concentrate on working with the management team to explore new business opportunities. Both of the executive changes were made in anticipation of the company’s listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Nadir Mohamed has been appointed to the position of president and COO at Rogers AT&T Wireless Inc. He will be responsible for operational functions including sales, marketing, information technology, human resources, government and inter-carrier relations and business systems development. For the past 18 months, Mohamed was the senior VP sales and marketing at Telus Communications Inc. Prior to joining Telus in February 1999, he held several senior financial, strategic business development and operational management positions at both BC Tel and BC Tel Mobility. During his tenure at BC Tel, he played an instrumental role in the creation of the company’s high-speed data networking solution which culminated in his appointment to the position of president and COO at BC Tel Mobility. In 1991, he was chair for the Organizational Task Force for BC Tel. Rogers AT&T Wireless has also appointed John Gossling as senior VP and CFO. He will be responsible for all the financial and operational planning and analysis, financial reporting, general accounting and all tax planning and compliance. Gossling joins the firm from professional services firm KPMG where he was a partner in the US Capital Market Group. During his 15-year career at KPMG, he focused on clients in the information, communications and entertainment industries. Cognicase Inc, Montreal, has appointed Paul Forostowsky to the position of president of the company’s Internet and wireless technologies group. He will be responsible for managing and leading the activities of this group as well as the implementation of the commercialization strategies with wireless telecommunications operators and major corporations to grow the division’s business. Prior to joining Cognicase, Forostowsky acted as president and CEO for several companies in the electronics, information and Internet technologies sectors in Europe. During his tenure on the other side of the Atlantic, he led two of the organizations to initial public offerings. He also worked as a WAP and interactive television applications specialist with Microcell Telecommunications. OnSat.net Canada Inc has appointed David Stephens as its president and CEO replacing outgoing acting chief executive David Molinaro. The company has also appointed Kuen Damiano as the company’s new COO replacing Eric Meger. Darren Hensly has also been named the company’s new CFO replacing Dinesh Dattani, the CFO of the original junior capital pool company. The three major executive changes are designed to further align the management of the company with that of its U.S. affiliate OnSat Network Communications Inc. Both Stephens and Damiano are the founders of the U.S. affiliate. Damiano is the current CTO and COO, and Stephens is president and CEO of OnSat Networks. MobileQ Inc has made a series of senior level management changes designed to accelerate the company’s success in the wireless ebusiness market. Robert Berlin has been appointed CFO, Andrew Boyland becomes senior VP of corporate development and Paul Liddy has been named senior director of sales. The company is filling its executive team with seasoned personnel as it prepares to aggressively market its flagship product XMLEdge. Berlin brings a wealth of financial experience to the firm after having raised several hundred million dollars for DSL.net Inc. Boyland will have the responsibility of growing the company into a global powerhouse in the mobile software industry with a focus on sales and business development. Prior to joining MobileQ, he was president and director at Automated Travel Systems Inc. As the senior director of sales , he will lead the company’s major sales thrust. During a nine-year tenure at AT&T, he eventually became division manager responsible for sales strategy and execution in AT&T’s ecommerce practice. Toronto-based telecommunications firm Kasten Chase has appointed Jim Davis to the position of president and COO. He was previously based in New York city where he served as Standards & Poor’s executive managing director of capital market services. He is also past president and CEO of Dow Jones Telerate Canada. Paul Hyde remains CEO of the company and assumes the new role of vice chairman of the board of directors. Stratos Global Corp has named Robert Benson to the position of executive VP and CFO, following a successful year in the same position with Stratos’ parent company Aliant Inc. His experience with Aliant will provide valuable insight as the company moves forward. Paradigm Advanced Technologies Inc of Toronto has named James Gillen as CTO, responsible for technology research and development, strategic licensing and patent development. With more than 20 years of telecommunications experience in technology and business development in the mobile Internet and wireless ecommerce business, Gillen will prove to be an invaluable asset to the wireless location technology firm. Prior to joining Paradigm, he was CTO at Ottawa-based ThinWeb Technologies, a developer of applications for online database access, mobile and wireless devices. He has held several senior executive positions with Bell Mobility, Bell Sigma, Minacom International and Rydex Industries Corp. Unique Broadband Systems Inc has nominated Patrick Lavelle and Edward Neufeld to stand for election to its board of directors. The election will take place at the company’s next annual general meeting on November 9/00. Lavelle is chair of the Export Development Corp and Neufeld is a former deputy minister of finance for the federal government. Audiovox Communications Corp, Hauppauge NY, has appointed Elizabeth Doucette VP sales for Canada. She will be responsible for developing sales for both wireless handsets and cordless phones. For the past five years, she has served as director of sales for the Canadian division. Northwood Technologies Inc, Nepean ON, has appointed Conrad Lewis, Richard Bertrand and Alan Winter to the company’s board of directors. Bertrand, who has been elected chair of the board, is president of Ottawa-based consulting firm IThink Inc. Lewis has more than 25 years experience including numerous R&D and product management positions with Mitel and Nortel Networks. Winter, chair of the board of the Communications Research Centre, brings nearly 30 years experience. In 1996, he formed a consulting and venture capital investment management company.
