Mark Lukowski has been appointed senior VP marketing and sales at AirIQ Inc, Pickering ON. He will head up the Toronto area company’s vertical markets division that now includes providing its web-enabled fleet management technology to school buses and heavy equipment. Lukowski joins AirIQ from Canadian freight company Clarke Transport where he served as president. He brings more than 20 years of national and international management experience in the computer, wireless and transport industries. He also held several senior level sales, marketing and management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Motorola. Cygnal Technologies Ltd division, Comlink Systems, has announced that Don Smith has joined the company in the role as account manager, central region for the broadcast and telecom group. He has more than 10 years of communications experience and was previously telecom manager at Trispec Communications Inc. Don Morrison has been named COO at Research in Motion, Waterloo ON. His mandate is to strengthen RIM’s international operations and to help build a world-class service organization to support the popular wireless email, two-way pager the BlackBerry. The company has begun to aggressively expand distribution of its BlackBerry wireless email pager and BlackBerry handheld device. Before joining the company, he was most recently senior VP government and external affairs at AT&T Canada. He has also held several senior level positions in Canada, Europe and the U.S. with AT&T and Bell Canada. The wireless group of COM DEV International Ltd, Kitchener ON, has named Dr Wei Zhang to oversee all of its wireless operations in China at its new manufacturing facility. As GM of the plant located in Suzhou, he will continue to streamline operations and enhance productivity. Zhang was formerly director of the Xi’an Institute of Space Radio Technology and is a member of the Chinese Academy of Space Technology. He completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Communications Research Lab at McMaster University in Hamilton ON. Meridex Network Corp, Richmond BC, has promoted Alan C Foster to COO. During his five months with Meridex, Foster performed extremely well under tight deadlines in implementing the company’s wireless application service provider e-business solution, said company president and director Peter Daniel. His experience in a wide range of aspects of the high tech industry and his expertise in operations management made him an ideal choice for the position, according to Daniel. Michelle d’ Auray has been named chief information officer for the government of Canada by Frank Claydon, secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General of Canada. She left the position as assistant deputy minister at Canadian Heritage Canada to take on this role, replacing Linda Lizotte-MacPherson. D’Auray’s top priority will be to implement the Canadian government’s online initiative that will provide Canadians with online access to all federal programs and services by 2004. She was the executive director of the Government of Canada’s task force on electronic commerce at Industry Canada from 1997-1999. THOMCAST Communications Inc has appointed Sean Brushett to the position of VP marketing. In this role he will develop and drive the marketing strategy and execution for both the company’s core technologies and operations as well as new initiatives. Most recently, he served as senior marketing manager/director of marketing at Cox Communications in Southern Louisiana. Prior to joining Cox, he held several senior level marketing roles in the U.S. He also served as director of business development at Canway Ltd in Ottawa ON. He graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury ON. Vancouver-based Voice Mobility International Inc has named Randy Buchamer as chair of the board of directors succeeding William Krebs who will remain on the board. Buchamer will lead the company as it heads into Phase II of its growth strategy and will play an important role in guiding Voice Mobility through international expansion. He is a seasoned executive with a wealth of experience in building sales and managing large operations.
