Hearing begins Oct. 30 in Calgary–Provincial telco’s cable TV application facing opposition from traditional cablecos

SaskTel’s plan to move into the cable market has not been warmly received by either the cable industry or opposition parties in the provincial legislature. The Canadian Cable Television Association (CCTA) warns that the provincial telco could use monopoly telephone revenues to subsidize competitive cable TV services. Other critics say a crown-owned corporation has no business getting into a market where competition already exists.
