Paradigm Advanced Technologies has appointed Joseph Schembri chief of engineering for the company’s subsidiary PowerLOC Technologies Inc. Prior to joining the company, Schembri was president at Tie Communications Research Inc, a designer and manufacturer of telecommunications equipment for the global marketplace. He has also worked at Nortel Networks Corp and Motorola Inc where he specialized in setting up the engineering database and documentation control procedures. Paradigm has also named J Edward Antecol as the company’s new general counsel. He is formerly VP regulatory at AT&T Canada Corp. Antecol will advise the company on matters regarding its intellectual property and licensing agreements. Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO) has appointed a new chair of the board of directors and nine new members to the board. Peter Perry, head R&D, public switching at Mitel Corp, takes over as chair. CITO has also elected five new industrial directors. Frank Huntley, president at Kingston Software factory, Rob Crawhall, director disruptive network technologies at Nortel Networks Corp, Ian McWalter, president and CEO at Gennum Corp and Michael Gibbon, executive VP at IMAX Corp have all joined in that capacity. Feridun Hamdullahpur, VP research at Carleton University and Paul Guild VP research designate at McMaster University were appointed university board directors. Luigi Logrippo from the University of Ottawa has been appointed research director. Voice Mobility International Inc, Vancouver, has appointed Robert Neal to its board. Neal is the president at Innovatia, Aliant Inc’s e-business incubator company. He brings a long list of credentials to the board and will add to the company’s experience and background in cellular telephony. Stewart Sheriff has been named VP operations at Ajax ON-based Novanet Communications Ltd. Sheriff was previously director sales and client services for the company. He will now be responsible for day-to-day operations of the distributed customer locations along with its DVB and SCPC uplink and monitoring facilities. Novanet designs, builds, and maintains satellite-based networks used in the delivery of multimedia information. André Bourbonnais has been appointed to the board of directors at Look Communications Inc. He assumes the responsibilities of outgoing board member Guthrie Stewart. Bourbonnais is co-CEO, executive VP, chief legal officer and secretary at Teleglobe Inc. He is currently overseeing the transition resulting from the acquisition of Teleglobe by BCE Inc. SKG Interactive Inc, Richmond Hill ON, has appointed Shaun Rootenberg executive VP. He brings extensive experience and background in the e-business and computer technology fields. He also has experience with start-ups and Internet development. SKG is evolving into an application service provider for both the wireline and wireless markets. Michel Fattouche has been named Prairie Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 for Communications and Technology by Ernst and Young. The E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year program is sponsored by Canadian Business magazine, BMO Nesbitt Burns and Global television and celebrates Canadian entrepreneurs and their achievements. Norigen Communications Inc has made several executive announcements that are designed to bolster the company’s sales and marketing. Harry Zarek has been named senior VP national sales as part of the company’s recent acquisition of Compugen Services Ltd (RoW, Oct 2/00). John Papadakis has been appointed senior VP of technology and networks. He will oversee the technology, planning, development, delivery and operations of Norigen’s national network. Brian Gibson has been named VP sales for Alberta. He brings more than 25 years of telecom sales and marketing experience to the company. He previously held positions with Edmonton Telephone and Telus. Larry Baldwin will remain president of the recently acquired Liberty Technology Systems where he served in that role since the founding of the company in January 1999. Norma Reveler has joined the Decima Publishing team and takes over as editor of Canadian Communications Reports. An industry veteran, she previously worked at the Hollywood Reporter.
