Patrick O’Hara has been named GM of OnTV Hamilton. O’Hara, who was Global Quebec’s first employee in April 1997 and who in 1999 was appointed Quebec GM, will be at OnTV when it begins its re-branding in early 2001. Maureen Rogers, business manager at Global Television Network (Quebec) takes over the GM position vacated by O’Hara. Also at Global, Barry Saunders, who most recently was general sales manager for the Atlantic Region, was promoted to GM of Global’s Atlantic operations. Four new members have been added to Lions Gates Entertainment as part of the integration of systems and personnel at the company and at Trimark Holdings Inc. The new board members are: Trimark chair and CEO Mark Amin, Craig Broadcast Alberta Inc and Craig Broadcast System Inc president Drew Craig, Intrawest Corp chair, president and CEO Joe Houssian, and Canada’s Export Development Corp chair and director Patrick Lavelle. Lions Gate announced Oct. 13 that it had completed a transaction making Trimark its wholly owned subsidiary. Gwen Iveson has joined the Canadian Television Fund’s Licence Fee Program as Manager of Review and Compliance. Formerly a financial analyst and business affairs manager at Telefilm Canada, Iveson will implement an enhanced compliance review and audit system for LFP files. Also, Louise Baillargeon becomes senior director of the CTF’s French policy and Montreal corporate affairs. Working out of Montreal, Baillargeon will provide policy advice and support for the French-Canadian market with regard to the LFP. CTV has named Dennis McIntosh as VP of CTV News. McIntosh will report to Kirk LaPointe, who was named CTV News senior VP earlier this month. McIntosh has been senior managing editor at CTV News. David Kines has been appointed VP and general manager of CIVI, the recently licensed Victoria station of Chum Television. Kines will be responsible for the launch of CIVI Victoria in Fall 2001 and its day-to-day operations. Other appointments at the new station are Clint Nickerson as director of news and information programming, and Laura Action as director of community affairs. Hudson Janisch, of the University of Toronto’s faculty of law, has been named to the Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt Chair in Law and Technology at the school. Janisch is an expert in IP, antitrust and technological change, and communications law. Theresa Muir, formerly director of regulatory matters at Bell Canada has joined AT&T Canada as VP of regulatory. Sheridan Scott, chief regulatory officer at Bell Canada, has been appointed chair of the Internet Content Rating Association. The non-profit group works with Internet content providers to develop a filtering and labelling system that can be used by parents to protect their children from potentially harmful material on the Internet. Scott was previously a member of the Finance and Compensation Committee and has been representing Bell Canada on the ICRA board of directors since the company became a member of ICRA in September 1999. Richard Green, president/CEO of Colorado-based Cable Television Laboratories Inc, has been named chair of a new international study group on cable network standards. The Integrated Broadband and Cable Networks and Television and Sound Transmission group was one of 14 study groups struck in Montreal earlier this month as part of the International Telecommunication Union’s World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly. André Vandal, author of children’s fiction books, will head CinéGroupe Education, a new division of CinéGroupe Media that will launch an educational portal this Fall. He will be supported by producer Anne Carisse, project manager Renée Leblanc, and director Thierry Gagnon. Heidi Bonnell follows Brian Tobin to Ottawa, working in communications for the new minister of Industry. Former Industry minister John Manley’s new portfolio is at Foreign Affairs where he is joined by his former press secretary, Jennifer Sloan. Kelly Beaton has left the National Arts Centre to join the Canadian Association of Broadcasters as director of communications and media relations. Robert Scarth, senior VP of TV and online media, will be leaving the CAB after its convention in Calgary in November for Austin, Texas.
