Cell-Loc Inc has trimmed its management team to better reflect the company’s future requirements. David Howard, VP finance, is no longer with the company. James Hill, recently appointed CFO will now oversee all financial operations within the company. Wi-LAN Inc has added a COO to its management team. Sayed-Amr El-Hamamsy takes on the role effective Jan 8. He has more than 15 years experience in the high tech industry with expertise in leading operations, product development and delivery. In his new capacity, El-Hamamsy will lead the development of the company’s I.WiLL product line, which uses its proprietary OFDM technology, as well as the Hopper Plus family of products. He will also be responsible for supply chain operations, quality and information systems. His most recent position was with General Electric in New York as e-Engineering leader. Stewart Thompson, VP sales wholesale AT&T Canada, has been appointed to the board of directors at Canada Payphone Corp, Vancouver. He replaces Greg McCamus who has recently resigned from AT&T Canada. Thompson has previously held several senior level executive positions at AT&T Canada and most recently was VP access management and carrier relations. Dale Belsher has joined Glentel Inc as its CFO, effective Jan 2 taking over for Stephen Schober who has assumed similar responsibilities at Glentel majority shareholder TCG International Inc. He has extensive experience in the technology industry and was most recently, VP finance at Norsat International Inc. Belsher has also worked in the real estate development, investment brokerage, and health care industries and the legal profession. Anthony Karakatsanis has been appointed VP telecommunications at Morrison Hershfield Ltd, a Toronto-based engineering and management company. Bell Canada International Inc has made several changes to its board of directors and senior management team. Bill Anderson has been named to the board and its chair replacing Jean Monty. Monty will retain a seat on the board. Anderson joined BCI in 1992 as president of BCE Ventures and was formerly CFO at BCE Inc. Howard Hendrick has been appointed executive VP and CFO at BCI effective January 15 replacing Siim Vanaselja who will moving to a similar position at the parent company. He brings nearly 25 years experience to the position serving as VP finance at Bell ActiMedia Inc and CFO at Sympatico-Lycos Inc. BCE Inc has appointed Patrick Pichette as executive VP planning and performance management. He will report to Michael Sabia, president at BCE. From 1994 to 1996, he was CFO at Call-Net Enterprises. He is currently a partner with McKinsey & Company and in that capacity has consulted for both Teleglobe and Bell Canada. Jannat Hamid has been promoted from director, development and communications at Canadian Women in Communications to VP of the organization. She has more than two decades of broadcast industry experience and will work developing and implementing new initiatives that are membership and revenue driven. Hamid will also work to establish policies and procedures that keep in line with the mandate of the organization. eDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc has made a couple of senior level management changes. President and CEO, Brian Ellis left the company in the week leading up to the Christmas holidays. Michael Beards, VP sales and marketing, has resigned from the company. He left to pursue other opportunities. These recent departures don’t seem to come at an opportune time as the company was on the verge of embarking on a new sales and marketing strategy aimed at significantly increasing the number of users of its wireless Internet-based dispatch software. OBITUARY: The grandfather of citizens’ band radio, Al Gross, has died at the age of 82. The Toronto-born man was known for his wireless wizardry and held a stack of patents that eventually led to the development of cell phones, pagers, garage door openers and walkie-talkies. He died at a hospice in Sun City AZ.
