Gerry Pond is the incoming president of Aliant Telecom and of Aliant Emerging Business. He previously served as EVP Aliant Inc and president of the eastern telco’s Information Technology and Emerging Business units. As president of Aliant Telecom, he replaces Colin Latham, who is retiring. Jay Forbes has been named EVP and CFO. He formerly worked for Oxford Properties Group, Nova Scotia Power Holdings Inc and Nova Scotia Power Inc. Toronto CLEC Axxent Inc has made a series of changes in the executive suite. Bob Latham moves up from president to be chair while retaining the CEO position. He replaces Bill Young, who will remain on the board of directors. Jim Lovie is now president/COO. He comes from cMeRun and has experience at Bell. Anil Amlani, a veteran of Cancom and AT&T/Unitel, is the new CFO. He takes over from Chris Clinning , who has left the telco. Bell Globemedia has named Janet Callaghan as group senior VP integrated marketing. She is an alumna of The Media Co/Media Buying Services and of J. Walter Thompson Canada Ltd.Richard Evans is the VP sales & marketing for Rodin Communications Corp. He most recently worked as director of sales (central region) for NEC Canada Business Communications. Nicholas Dowd is the new VP finance. The 15-year financial vet has experience in North America and Europe. InQuent Technologies Inc has appointed Ken Wilson as president/CEO. He served as president of the enterprise & consumer services group at Sprint Canada. Steven McArthur is now president and CEO of AOL Canada Inc. Previously president and COO, he replaces Stephen Bartkiw in the top job. The ISP has appointed Catherine Pearce as VP marketing and Ian Hembery as VP government relations & communications. VoiceIQ Inc has elected Henri Rothschild to its board of directors. A former chief scientist for Industry Canada and ADM at Science and Technology, he is at present the president of the Canada-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation. The Information, Communications and the Electronics Technologies (ICET) Alliance, an industry association in Alberta, has presented its inaugural ICET IT Hero Awards. The winners are Wayne Karpoff of YottaYotta, Andrew Kyle from Springbank Techventures, Grant Lakeman of MONTAGE eIntegration, and Byron Osing from Launchworks. Bruce Phillips , the former federal privacy commissioner, has been named chair of the privacy and ethics advisory board of Prolific Technology Inc. Before joining the government, Phillips had a distinguished career at CTV and Southam News. Micralyne Inc of Edmonton has appointed Bruce Alton as director of business development, telecommunicatons. He is the former president of Blackbird Ventures Inc. David Colville has been named interim chair of the CRTC. A commissioner since 1990, he is currently vice chair responsible for telecommunications. He will hold the interim position for the next six months. The advent of a new administration has led to more changes at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington. Republican commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth has announced he will not seek reappointment but will carry out his duties until the president chooses a replacement. Incoming chair Michael Powell has named Marsha MacBride as chief of staff for the regulator. She returns to the FCC after a stint in the DC office of the Walt Disney Co. Jane Mago, deputy chief of the enforcement bureau, will handle legal functions on an interim basis; David Fiske, deputy director of media relations, is the interim manager of media relations; while Paul Jackson , special assistant to the chair, will be responsible for the management of legislative and intergovernmental affairs.
