Global Communications Ltd has given Jack Tomik the extra title of general manager of BCTV. The network's new national newscast will originate from BCTV. He retains his role as senior VP of CanWest Media Sales. As well, Art Reitmayer , former president of the station, has been appointed VP of special projects at CanWest.CRTC vice chair David Colville will head the commission for the next six months. Former CRTC chair Françoise Bertrand leaves the CRTC on Feb. 15 to take up a job at Secor Consulting (CCR, Dec. 7/00). Colville will preside over the licence renewal hearings for TVA, CTV and Global Television Network this spring. John Galway , former manager of project data and industry analysis at Telefilm Canada's licence fee program, has been appointed the new television unit director for Ontario. He will lead a team consisting of six television analysts and two project coordinators.Telemedia Radio Inc has named Mario Cecchini executive VP of its Ontario region. He will provide leadership to 24 radio stations within Ontario. Cecchini began his career at Telemedia in 1984, being named VP of sales, research and marketing in 1999. Bill McDonald has been upped to senior VP of operations at Shaw Cablesystems. The 18-year Shaw veteran will oversee Shaw's cable operations and cable-related services, including Shaw@Home. Corus Entertainment announced its new board of directors, consisting of Clinton Forster, president of radio broadcasting company Forvest Broadcasting of Victoria; David Jensen, VP of Liberty Media Group; David Flowers, senior VP and treasurer of Liberty Media Corp; Dennis Erker; Dorothy Zolf McDonald, chair of the CTV-CFCN Production Fund; Heather Shaw, executive chair of Corus; John Cassaday, Corus president and CEO; Julie Shaw, director of facilities for Shaw Communications Inc; Michael Hirsh, co-chief executive officer of Nelvana Ltd; Terrance Royer, vice chair of Calgary-based Royal Host Hotel and Resort Management; and Wendy Leaney , president of Wyoming Associates Ltd. A former journalist with The Saskatoon Outlook, Anita Grace joins the national arts advocacy organization Canadian Conference of the Arts as communications and public relations manager. David McIntosh and Janice Tufford have been named the new Canadian programmers for this year's Hot Doc Canadian International Documentary Festival, to be held in Toronto from April 30 to May 6. Jay Forbes has been named executive VP and CFO of Aliant Inc, effective Feb. 26. Effective March 1, Colin Latham, president of Aliant Telecom, will retire but will continue to work on the Aliant Premium program. Gerry Pond , currently executive VP of Aliant Inc and president of Aliant's information technology and emerging business units, becomes president of Aliant Telcom and Aliant emerging business. Chum Ltd has promoted Sheila Sullivan to director of music programming at specialty channels MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic, and Neil Staite to director of operations at the two channels. He will oversee programming and production operations. Lina G. Allard becomes director general of upstart French-language arts channel Tele des Arts, the last analog channel to be licensed. She had been director of Radio-Canada's public affairs programming since 1991. The channel is partly owned by the CBC.GlobalMedia.com announced its board of directors, which includes president Michael Metcalfe; VP of business development Winston Barta; Patrick Smyth, CEO of Wiremix Media Inc; Dr Herbert Becker, CEO of Entervision; and Canon Bryan , of Lasik Vision Corp. Denise Donlon, president of Sony Music Canada, has been named Woman of the Year by Canadian Women in Communications. While at MuchMusic, Donlon created the first ever genderless award categories at the MuchMusic Video Awards and increased the percentage of women on-air and behind the cameras to 50 per cent. CAB president and CEO Michael McCabe has been named Mentor of the Year, and Michèle Fortin , VP of CBC French Television was chosen Trailblazer of the Year.
