Mike van der Lee has been appointed VP and GM for British Columbia at Rogers AT&T Wireless Inc. He assumes the responsibility for all sales, marketing and customer care activities for the company in the western most province. Van der Lee joins Rogers from Telus Mobility where he was most recently director corporate sales. Prior to joining Telus in 1993, he held sales and marketing positions at Canadian Telephones and Supplies Ltd, Motorola Canada Ltd, Honeywell Protection Services and Xerox Canada Ltd. L3 Technology Inc has named Allan Larmour executive VP of sales and marketing for the Vancouver-based firm. He brings extensive sales and marketing experience to the table having served in the same capacity for IP Applications, an Internet wholesaler. Prior to that, he was VP sales and marketing at EXL Information Corp, a company created by L3’s current president and CEO, Naiel Kanno. Nortel Networks Corp’s CTO Bill Hawe quietly resigned a couple of weeks ago amidst a string of class action law suits against the telecom giant. He has left to pursue other opportunities and is being replaced by Jules Meunier. Sean Quine has been appointed director of network services at GDI Global Data Inc, Toronto. He brings more than 15 years of management experience in the data communications field. Certen Inc, Bell Canada’s and Amdocs joint venture billing company, has appointed Jim Hubley as CEO and Marinella Ermacora as COO. Effective April 2, Hubley will move over to the new post leaving Czech Telecom where he served as executive VP of the telephone services group. He brings extensive telecommunications experience to the company after having served in several senior level positions during a 27-year career with AT&T. Ermacora is currently VP systems delivery at CGI and will take over her new position in early March. During her 18-year tenure within the Bell family, she most recently achieved the modernization of the customer care suite of systems for Bell and upgrading the company’s IT infrastructure. Phil Saunders has joined the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) as director technology policy. He will act as ITAC’s principle contact at the Radio Advisory Board of Canada and the Telecom Standards Council of Canada. AT&T Canada has appointed André Bureau to its board of directors. Bureau is the chair at Astral Media Inc and president and CEO at Astral Broadcasting Inc, the country’s largest operator of English and French specialty, pay and pay-per-view television services. He is also counsel with the legal firm Heenan Blaikie. Additionally, Bureau served as chair of the CRTC until 1989. Prior to that, he was president and CEO at Canadian Satellite Communications. Michael Geist has been named director of ecommerce law at Goodmans law firm in Toronto. He is continuing to teach at the University of Ottawa law school. The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) has formed an advisory board for its Women in IT initiative. Serving on the committee are Craig Slaney, the past president of CIPS; Peter Wolchak of Laurentian Technomedia Inc; Lachlan Peck from the Peel (ON) District School Board; Frank Piddisi from the Toronto Catholic District School Board; Vicki Brady of Toronto’s Havergal College; Mary Jane Kucerak, executive director of CIPS; Mylene Sayo, public relations manager of CIPS; Cris Garvey, executive director of CIPS in Vancouver; and Shelley Campbell, marketing and communications director for CIPS Vancouver.
