Sue Prestedge has been appointed senior VP of the Category 1 digital channel Women’s Sports Network (WSN) by CTV Inc-owned NetStar Communications. She will oversee the day-to-day operations of the new network, including program production, acquisition, scheduling, marketing and strategic planning. For the past five years, she has directed the broadcast journalism program at Mohawk College in Hamilton, ON. Telefilm Canada has appointed Ron Bremner as chair of the corporation’s audit and finance committee. He replaces Elvira Sanchez de Malicki, who remains on the board. Bremner, formerly president and CEO of BCTV, has been a member of the board since June 1998. He is also currently president and CEO of the Calgary Flames. Chum Television has named Jay Levine director of production for the recently licensed Category 1 digital channel, Fashion Television: The Channel. Currently creative director at the specialty channel Star!, Scott Greig picks up the additional title of creative director for Fashion Television. Ellen Baine, director of programming for CityTV and Star!, will do the same duty for Fashion Television. Susan Bower, formerly VP of finance and administration, has been appointed COO of the Vision TV group of channels. Bower joined Vision TV in 1989 and is currently also director of Wisdom: Body, Mind & Spirit. She will help set strategic directions. As well, Alberta Nokes has been upped to VP of communications from director of communications. Her responsibilities include program promotion, corporate communications and branding of Vision’s channels and new media. Corrie Coe has left her position as former senior director of legal policy and corporate affairs at the Canadian Television Fund’s Licence Fee Program to become CTV director of programming and administration. No replacement has yet been named at the CTF. AT&T Canada Inc has elected André Bureau to its board of directors. The chair of Astral Media Inc and president and CEO of Astral Broadcasting Group Inc was chair of the CRTC in the 1980s. Corus Entertainment Inc has named Bruce Nelson to the newly created position of VP and general manager of Corus Premium Television, and Joyce Van Zeumeren as VP of marketing at Corus Premium Television. A consultant with Corus’ western pay television service since August 2000, Nelson will oversee Movie Central, the pay television channel that will replace Superchannel and Movie Max! on April 1 and pay-per-view service Viewer’s Choice. Van Zeumeren was previously director of marketing services for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. Sheldon Teicher also moves from VP of business affairs at Corus Television to VP of corporate development at Corus Entertainment. Sally Moyer Kent, CFO of Nelvana Ltd since 1997, has resigned as Corus Entertainment integrates with the animation company. Nelvana’s former general counsel Chris Nalborczyk becomes VP of finance. Former senior VP, general counsel and corporate secretary for Nelvana and specialty channel YTV, Hatty Riesman becomes senior VP of operations and general counsel at Nelvana and VP of business affairs at Corus. Jocelyn Hamilton and Marianne Culbert have been upped to VPs of production from supervising producers at Nelvana. Hamilton and Culbert will be responsible for the planning and execution of major production strategies as the company seeks to expand the reach of its products internationally. Kevin Shea has resigned as president of Global Television Network. He joined Global in 1995 as president and COO of Global Television’s eastern operations. Previously president and COO at Atlantis Communications before it merged with Alliance, founding president and CEO of YTV Canada and VP of marketing at Rogers Cablesystems, Shea plans to rejoin the broadcast industry after a break of several months. Tony Scapilatti has been awarded a posthumous award for his contributions to broadcasting and to the North American Broadcasters Association. The 2000 NABA awards were given out in Los Angeles on March 1. The association is making a donation to trust funds for his children.
