Kym Wittal has been named CTO of SaskTel. He is an 18-year veteran of the provincial telco, having worked most recently as GM technology performance and operations.  Vancouver’s dba Telecom has appointed Rob Campbell VP sales and marketing, replacing Mike Zwarick who has left dba. Campbell was previously with Dial Digital Inc, which was recently purchased by his new employer. Rick Roth has been named VP marketing and corporate communications for fibre builder 360networks Inc. His public relations background includes working at Level 3 Communications, Corporate Express Inc and Oak Tree Communications, while his media background involves stints at CBS News and CNN. Patrick Brockett is the incoming president/CEO of Mitel Corp. He leaves his job as EVP analog & wireless division of National Semiconductor to join the Ottawa firm. Michel Buyle is the new European sales manager for OZ Optics Ltd. Formerly with BFI Optilas SA, Buyle will be based in France as he works for the Ottawa-based company. Ottawa’s MetroPhonics Inc has announced an arrival and a departure. EVP John Hollander, one of the founders of the company, is leaving to join the Doucet McBride law firm, although he will continue to consult for MetroPhonics. The former clerk of the House of Commons, Bob Marleau, has signed on as a volunteer advising the company on public affairs. His duties include serving on two committees and taking part in quarterly meetings. Paul Weissman is the new COO/CFO of Venngo Inc of Toronto. A consultant with the company since last June, he will direct the development of the firm’s operational and financial departments. He was a co-founder of Futureway Communications Inc, a CLEC, and was VP operations/CFO at Microforum Inc. Michael Zahra is the new GM of Yahoo! Canada. He spent 10 years at Schlumberger, eventually becoming VP and GM, before joining the Internet portal last year. Teleglobe has made two appointments to senior management. Robert Leahy is now senior VP corporate marketing. He has experience with PSINet, the National Association of Securities Dealers and Bowater Inc. The new senior VP and chief human resources officer is Robert Schwartz. He previously worked at Nabisco Ltd, Frito-Lay Inc and American Hospital Supply Corp. Oz Pedde, the former president/CEO of Manitoba Telecom Services, has joined the board of Calgary’s NetDriven Solutions Inc. The 25-year telecom veteran has also worked at Richardson-Greenshields of Canada Ltd and Telemetrix Inc and served on the board of Telesat Canada. Clarence Chandran is taking a leave of absence from Nortel Networks, where he is COO. He is recovering from the aftereffects of a stabbing attack which occurred in Singapore in June 1997.
