Elizabeth Duffy-MacLean has been appointed group VP of regulatory affairs and policy strategy at Bell Globemedia. She will be responsible for all regulatory affairs within the company and will provide strategic advice on policy issues. She was VP of strategic and regulatory affairs at BCE Inc-owned CTV Inc from March to June 2001, and was director of business affairs at NetStar Communications Inc from October 1990 to March 2001. As well, Lib Gibson has been named president and CEO of Bell Globemedia Interactive. Previously, she played a role in the launch and development of the Sympatico Internet service while with WorldLink, and served as VP of strategy for Bell Canada. Look Communications Inc chair of the board, Michael Cytrynbaum, has been named interim president and CEO. He succeeds David Parkes, who will continue with the company in an advisory capacity and as a member of the board of directors. As well, Louis Villeneuve has been named COO, while retaining his existing responsibilities as CFO. He was involved in the restructuring of cash-strapped Look. Raymond Carnovale has been appointed VP and chief technology officer at the CBC/Radio-Canada. Based in Toronto, he will be responsible for the integration of the public broadcaster’s technology resources. He has worked for more than 30 years in the technology and engineering fields, and has extensive experience in radio and television broadcasting, including holding senior positions at Oakville-based Leblanc Ltd, Baton Broadcasting, CFRB and TV Ontario. Philippa King has been made a partner at production company Rhombus Media. She has been head of business affairs at the company for the past five years. Richard Fowler has been promoted to VP of business and legal affairs at Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc’s children’s label, AAC Kids. An employee of Alliance Atlantis since September 1977, he was most recently senior VP of business and legal affairs. He will work exclusively on the business and legal strategies of AAC Kids, including co-production deals and partnerships with various international broadcasters and producers in the children’s area. Anne-Marie Lemay has left Cinar Corp to take on the position of sales executive for Canada and Latin America at Montreal-based Distraction Formats. Tim Jones, currently operations manager of Global Winnipeg, has been named business and operations manager at CanWest Global Communications Corp’s digital broadcast centre to open in Winnipeg . Also, Leslie Roberts joins the Global News team in Toronto as anchor, effective Sept. 4. He is currently news director and chief anchor for Global Quebec. At Chum Television, Sarah Crawford has been promoted to the new position of VP of public affairs, and Mary Powers has been upped to the new position of VP of communication and promotion. In her new position, Crawford will oversee corporate activity in the areas of consumer, audience and industry relations, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, social policy and related marketing, and communications and business activities. Previously, Powers was VP of communication and promotion for Chum’s local Toronto station Citytv. Now, she will be responsible for directing Chum Television’s communications in both the domestic and international marketplace. Howard Ray has joined Vision TV as controller, and Brant Kostandoff has been named director of corporate and legal affairs. Ray has 15 years experience as a certified management accountant, outside the broadcasting industry. Kostandoff was previously manager of professional standards and ADR Services with the Toronto Real Estate Board. Sue McGarvie, the head of digital licensee Passion Television, has been nominated to the board of the United Nation’s Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). The New York City-based agency promotes and supports political, economic and social empowerment of women, particularly in developing countries. Jacques Lefebvre, senior communications advisor to Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps has left the department for a private-sector job in research-based pharmaceuticals. He is replaced by Krista Pawley, who becomes Copps’ press secretary. Telesat CEO Larry Boisvert has been named to the board of directors of WildBlue, a U.S. company aiming to rollout broadband services via satellite. Veteran producer Stephen Onda has been named head of WestWind Pictures’ new feature film production unit. Under Onda’s direction, the Saskatchewan-based production company will begin to produce long-form productions. Robin Smith, formerly of Blackwatch Releasing, has joined the Toronto office of Lions Gate Films as director of marketing and distribution. Nadir Mohamed, currently president and COO at Rogers AT&T Wireless, has been named president and CEO. He replaces Charles Hoffman, who left the position June 30. Telefilm Canada has named the members of the new feature film advisory committee, which will advise the Canadian Heritage Minister and Telefilm Canada on how best to get more Canadians watching Canadian films. Named to the committee were producer Robert Lantos; distributors Mary-Pat Gleeson and Christian Larouche; directors Louis Belanger, Atom Egoyan and Anne Wheeler; screenwriters Joanne Arseneau and Tricia Fish; performers Pierre Curzi and Tantoo Cardinal; theatrical exhibitor Tony Cianciotta; broadcasters Suzanne Laverdiere and Lisa de Wilde; film festival organizer Piers Handling; training school representative Wayne Clarkson; and members at large Brian Gliserman and Paul Gratton. Ex officio members are Louise Pelletier, from the Telefilm Canada board; Garry Toth of the Canadian Television Fund, and Jean-Francois Bernier of Canadian Heritage. As previously announced, the committee will be chaired by Denise Robert, Niv Fichman and Tom Rowe. Stephen Nicolle has been named president and CEO of Sigma Systems Group, a provider of service management operations support systems for the cable industry. Previously, he worked for 16 years in positions of increasing responsibility at Nortel Networks, most recently as president of the company’s service provider eBusiness Solutions Group.
