Telus Québec has made two appointments. Nicole Bertrand has been named director general of business market sales in Montreal. The 15-year telecom alumna will be responsible for business market sales in the city. Monique Riendeau is the new director general of indirect distribution network. She is in charge of the development of the distribution grid for the telco. With the takeover of Arqana Technologies Inc by Telus, former CEO Paul Goldman becomes VP of client solutions and GM national systems. The 16-year veteran of the IT business founded Arqana in 1988. Randy Ivey has been named VP Internet engineering and operations for Teleglobe Inc. He has been promoted from his previous role as executive director of Internet engineering and operations. Prior to joining the BCE Inc subsidiary last November, he worked for Cable and Wireless USA, MCI WorldCom and Pacific Bell. AT&T Global Network Services has made a series of new appointments. Anthony Cina leaves IDC Canada, where he was an analyst, to become product manager for business Internet services. Mohammed Akoodie, a 20-year telecom veteran, is now market intelligence analyst. Teresa Aysan, who became billing manager last January, has been named product manager for managed data service network services. All of them will work out of the company’s Toronto office. Pierre Chauvot transfers from the firm’s bureau in France to become account manager in the Montreal office. Wes Scott has been appointed chair of the board of Ottawa’s iMPath Networks Inc. Scott is the former chief corporate officer of BCE Inc and EVP/CFO of Nortel Networks. He also served as president/CEO of Stentor Resource Centre Inc and as president of Bell Ontario. Idleworks Inc of Winnipeg has elected Oz Pedde to the board of directors. Most recently CEO of Telemetrix Inc, Pedde is best known for his four-year stint as president/CEO of Manitoba Telephone System. He also put in stints with Richardson-Greenshields of Canada and Toronto consulting firm Watson & Associates. Sean Budnik is the new VP business development at 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. Most recently president/CEO of Wright Technologies, he has also worked at MGI Software Corp and Accent Software. DataWave Systems Inc of Vancouver has named Marc Blesky CFO of the company. He previously sat on the board of directors and has worked for National Australia Bank and Michigan National Corp. The former CFO John Gunn is remaining as GM and also serves as the firm’s secretary. He is assuming new responsibilities for the firm’s prepaid card company. Anil Khatod has stepped down as chief marketing and strategy officer for Nortel Networks Corp. He had been in the job since last April and had been touted as a possible successor to retiring CEO John Roth. Cheam Tat-Inn is the new managing director for Nortel in Malaysia. He has experience at Arcadian Wireless, Compaq Computer and IBM. John Giamatteo, a 13-year veteran of Nortel, is now president of the Japanese division of the firm. He was most recently VP global accounts for Asia and was managing director in Korea. He replaces Norio Murakami, who has retired. Julpas "Tom" Kruesopon is now the managing director for Thailand and Vietnam. He previously worked for Samart Corp in Thailand. He is responsible for delivering Internet services to Nortel customers in the two southeast Asian nations. The most recent election of the board of directors of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority featured more than 3,000 voters selecting the new nine-member board. Winning candidates were UBC’s John Demco; Colin Campbell of Hostopia.com Inc; Maureen Cubberley of ASM Advanced Strategic Management Consultants; Momentous.ca Corp’s Julie Peckham; Paul Anderson of Operations egateDOMAINS; RKA Inc’s Ron Kawchuk; University of Ottawa professor Michael Geist; Denis Tanguay of Digital Internet Gaming Services Ltd; and Hickling Capital Corp’s Bruce Firestone. Appointed to serve key constituencies were Clyde Beattie of ALOAK (representing ISPs); CANARIE’s Andrew Bjerring (representing Internet users); and Tim Denton of denton.com (representing registrars). David White is the new president/CEO of Toronto’s Redline Communications Inc. He was most recently VP worldwide sales for Sharegate of Reno NV. In the course of a 27-year career, White has worked for Sentient Networks and CopperCom. The recent takeover of Cambridge Technology Partners by Novell Inc has resulted in several changes in the boardroom. Four Cambridge alumni have been named regional presidents for Novell. Carv Moore is now heading Novell Americas; Rhonda O’Donnell presides over Novell Asia Pacific; Gerard Van Kemmel is president Novell EMEA; and Hitoshi Yoshida is in charge of Novell Japan. Ernst & Young has released the nominees for Entrepreneur of the Year in various categories across the nation. Selected in the technology and communications division in British Columbia are Isidor Buchmann of Cadex Electronics Inc; William Hunter of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc and Dave Steeves of Steeves and Associates. The Prairies have two telecom-related nominees. Maureen Mitchells of Winnipeg’s Can Talk is a candidate in the business-to-business products and services sector, while Arnon Levy of Calgary’s Guest-Tek is in the running for emerging entrepreneur. In Ontario the technology and communications candidates are Mark Chamberlain of Wescam Inc of Burlington; Nick Majors from Toronto’s ActionFront Data Recovery Labs Inc; Greg Walling of Cabletel Communications Corp; and Doug Young from Cygnal Technologies Corp of Oshawa. Omur Sezerman of Ottawa’s OZ Optics Ltd is nominated in the manufacturing category. The technology and communications nominees in Quebec are David Ben-David of NSI Communications; Wavesat Telecom’s Dennis Ma; Rudolf Melik of Tenrox; and Jean Mignault from 20/20 Technologies Inc. Sylvie Boileau of Dubo Électrique is a candidate in the business-to-business products and services category. In Atlantic Canada, the technology and communications nominees are Michael MacDonald of DownEast Communications Inc in Halifax; Emad Rizkall of ZeddComm Inc in St. John’s NF; and Trevor Sawler from Fredericton’s CrescentStudio.com. The Federal Communications Commission has made two appointments in the economics section. David Sappington from the University of Florida has been named chief economist, replacing Gerald Faulhaber who is returning to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Sappington has worked for Bell Communications Research and taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan. Jonathan Levy, who has been at the commission for more than two decades, has been appointed deputy chief economist. He once taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
