eDispatch enters into merger agreement with AirIQMobile workforce management software company eDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc has entered into a merger agreement with AirIQ, a wireless application service provider specializing in the mobile asset management business. The combined company will be a leading provider of mobile resource management including fleet and mobile workforce management. Mobile Computing lands funding from TelesystemToronto-based Mobile Computing Corp (MCC) has completed a $5-million round of financing with one of the initial investors being Charles Sirois’ Telesystem Ltd. Additionally, if the company hits certain targets set out in a second agreement with Sirois, MCC could land another $5 million in financing by the first quarter of next year. Others participating in the investment are the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board and the VenGrowth Investment Fund Inc. 01 Communique, StockHouse announce partnershipUnified Communications firm 01 Communique has signed a joint marketing agreement with StockHouse Media Corp. Under the new agreement, StockHouse will now begin to market 01 Communique’s I’m InTouch remote communications product to the hundreds of thousands of active investors via its online financial portals in Canada and the United States. Zi Corp and Condat AG sign marketing agreementCalgary-based Zi Corp and Condat AG have signed a marketing agreement under which Condat will now support Zi’s eZitext input system. As one of the leading suppliers of GSM protocol stacks, it is well positioned to market the predictive text input system to its global customer base. Fuzion Canada expands Canadian operationsFuzion Wireless Communications Inc has launched its AccessNow service line in Oakville ON bringing high-speed wireless Internet access to the region. The company already has service operating in the Mississauga and North York regions and this expansion into Oakville marks another step in the company’s Canadian expansion strategy. UBS continues partnership with XM SatelliteConcord ON-based Unique Broadband Systems Inc has received a purchase order from XM Satellite Inc to conduct software enhancements to its terrestrial repeater network which is part of the company’s satellite radio system. Bell Mobility and Nortel sign major contractBell Mobility and Nortel Networks Corp have signed a $180-million contract to expand Bell’s network into western Canada. Nortel will install next-generation wireless equipment in Alberta and British Columbia which, when complete, will give Bell a proprietary national network. Bell will officially launch the network in the fall and it is expected to be operational in the major cities early next year. SpaceBridge sells chip set to TimeSpace RadioHull QC-based SpaceBridge Semiconductor has signed a letter of intent with TimeSpace Radio for the use of a chipset in the new TimeSpace Wireless Communications Link. The value of the contract is estimated to be about US$4 million. Production of the TimeSpace product will begin in 2002 and is targeted at the point-to-point access market. CRTC assigns 211 to public info and referral servicesThe CRTC has assigned the 211 access number to a new toll free service that will supply information and referrals about community, social, health and government services. The United Way of Canada and a number of other agencies had submitted the application for three-digit dialing last year. ANADIGICS offers new broadband chipANADIGICS Inc has introduced a new chip that aims to deliver high performance at a low cost for a variety of cable TV, television and video applications. The chip combines the benefits of both Gallium Arsenide and CMOS technology to offer a unique combination of features for set-top boxes, CATV tuners and cable modems. Telus Mobility selects Lucent for pre-paid systemTelus Mobility has begun to standardize its pre-paid calling management platform and has chosen Lucent Technologies Inc’s SurePay Prepaid Service for Mobile Networks. By implementing this new system, Telus will be able to achieve significant operational cost savings while continuing to offer the Pay & Talk service across the country. Cingular customer can now roam in CanadaCustomers of Cingular Wireless’ interactive subsidiary can now stay connected wirelessly while roaming in Canada through an agreement with Rogers Wireless Communications Inc. The two companies signed an agreement under which Cingular customers can stay in touch with corporate email and advanced messaging via Rogers’ Mobitex network. The cities where the roaming is possible are Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria. Rent Express subsidiary changes name to Go PrepaidRent Express Distribution Services Inc, a subsidiary of Rent Express Communications since 1994, has changed its name to Go Prepaid Inc. It has also become a separate operating company. Initially, the company will look to expand its national distribution strategy and to add more complementary pre-paid offerings to its portfolio.
