Rogers Communications has made two changes in its investor relations department. Bruce Mann has joined as VP investor relations while Richard Harvey has been promoted from his position of director of investor relations to director financial analysis. Harvey previously worked in the financial reporting department at Rogers Wireless. Mann brings valuable experience to the table and previously held similar positions at MetroNet Communications and US West Inc. Wi-LAN Inc president Bill Hewes has stepped down from his position as part of the company’s continued staffing reductions. These latest cuts of about 50 per cent of the company’s workforce are designed to save the company about $3 million over the next year. Internet billing company Intasys Corp has appointed Guy Fauré as the new CEO of its Mamma.com subsidiary. He has more than 20 years experience in corporate management, marketing and strategic planning and was one of the founders of Mpact Inmedia, now known as BCE Emergis. Fauré was previously VP operations at Quebecor Multimedia. He also founded the InfiniT web portal, was GM of the Internet-based applications division of Le Groupe Vidéotron Ltée, and was president and CEO at AT&T Quebec Inc. Paul Lamontagne has been named president of Look Communications Inc. The former EVP/COO of Look’s Quebec and Eastern Ontario division succeeds David Parkes, who left last June. He’s charged with leading the company through the next stage of restructuring, which includes bankruptcy protection. Roger Tinley is the new VP space systems at Telesat Canada. He has been with the company since 1979, serving most recently as director of satellite systems. Philip Ladouceur has resigned from the board of directors of location-based services technology company Cell-Loc Inc, Calgary. Ladouceur recently accepted a position with a Toronto-based venture group which no longer afforded him the time to participate in unrelated board positions. The company has also announced that Tom Saunders has resigned his position on the board of directors. Saunders has been a director of the Calgary-based company since 1996. NetDriven Solutions Inc has appointed Tim Jewell as its CTO and to the board of directors. Jewell is the chief architect of the recently acquired ReadAttachments Inc’s software. He brings more than 15 years experience in information technology to his new role. Jewell was CTO at BayStreetDirect.com Inc where he was the technical visionary responsible for the company’s entire web launch. Prior to his job at BayStreetDirect.com, Jewell had his own consulting practice for web site development and systems consulting for such clients as IBM International. Vancouver’s Clearigo Solutions Inc has appointed Geoff Catliff to its board of directors. Catliff is a director of the Columbus Group, an Internet consulting firm now wholly-owned by Telus. Victor Giacomin is the new CFO at West Bay Semiconductor Inc of Vancouver. He has 19 years experience in the financial field, having worked for Norsat International Inc, Avcorp Industries Inc, and Future Shop. John Riley has been named president of Astral Media’s Astral Television Networks (ATN) group, effective September 17. Prior to joining Astral, he led TELETOON English and French networks since their inception. Riley has been associated with Astral Media for 13 years and will now be responsible for ATN’s five pay and pay-per-view services, The Movie Network, MoviePix, Viewer’s Choice, Super Ecran and Canal Indigo. Cheryl Barker has now assumed the role of acting president/CEO of Bell Intrigna. The EVP finance/CFO of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc is replacing Murray Korth, who has left the firm. Before joining MTS in 1987, Barker worked for the Manitoba department of finance and for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell (now KPMG). BCE Emergis Inc has appointed Faye Baggiano as president of its North American eHealth solutions group. She joins the company from EDS, where she was president of the health care global industry group. She succeeds George Blake. The Radio Advisory Board of Canada has reinstated its sub-committee on licence-exempt issues and has appointed Eric Godberson of Wi-LAN Inc as the committee’s chair. The mandate of Sub-Committee-B is to advise the RABC/FWCC and Industry Canada on matters related to the use of radio frequency spectrum by licence-exempt devices for fixed applications. The board of directors of Calgary Technologies Inc (CTI) has elected John Webb, senior VP at AT&T Canada, as its new chair. He replaces Fred Stewart who has stepped down. Webb, who is a professional engineeer, has held several key positions at Nortel Networks Corp and AGT/Telus. He has been on the board of directors at CTI for seven years and has been a major contributor to many key initiatives. FCC commissioner Gloria Tristani left her position Sept. 7. A Democratic appointee, she is returning to New Mexico and a rumoured run for the state’s U.S. Senate seat in next year’s election. Scott Marcus has been named senior advisor for Internet technology at the commission. He is the former chief technology officer for Genuity, a network services provider based in Woburn MA.The commission has also appointed five new lawyers to its enforcement bureau. The market disputes resolution division of the bureau has hired Rosemary McEnery and Lisa Saks, both of whom are currently partners at the firm of Howrey Simon Arnold & White. Joining the investigations and hearings division is Jenner & Block partner Maureen Del Duca, who will serve as deputy division chief. Signing on as staff attorneys for the division are David Janas from Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo, and Hillary De Nigro from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. John Macdonald has been appointed GM at Navision Canada. He was formerly director of sales and marketing. Macdonald will be responsible for working with Navision’s staff and channel partners to bring the company’s software products to medium-sized businesses across the country. SS8 Networks Inc, a developer of Internet-signal devices with R&D facilities in Ottawa, has appointed Grant Wakelin as its new CEO. Wakelin was most recently president at ADC Metrica, a division of ADC Telecommunications, which was focused on developing network performance and management software.
