Defence of Outer Dimension mountedA 26 half-hour episode run of Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension has been moved into production by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp partner CinéGroup, based in Montreal. The live action series is based on web characters created by Tom Lynch (Caitin’s Way, The Secret World of Alex Mack). The show is slated to air in the winter of 2002 on both YTV in Canada and the Fox Kids Network in the U.S. The series is touting new 3D backgrounds and special effects for a hybrid live action/computer generated animation that will immerse the audience in the action. More details. E-Cruiter makes fifth acquisitionE-Cruiter.com Inc, Ottawa, has made another major acquisition to cap a string of five since April. This time, the HR software firm has signed a definitive agreement to purchase 6FigureJobs.com Inc. The Connecticut company offers a variety of career management, recruitment advertising, resume database and targeted research services to senior-level executives, employers and executive recruiters. The deal is all-stock, and no terms were disclosed. More details. CIRA publishes draft dispute resolution policyThe Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), the body responsible for administering .ca domain names, has published a draft policy on domain name dispute resolution. The organization says that there are currently few debates over .ca names, but that the number will likely grow as the number of .ca registrants grows. The policy would classify as "bad faith" any registrations made for the purposes of cyber-squatting, to prevent trade-mark holders from registering their names or to disrupt the business of a competitor with right to a trade mark or trade name. This is the third and final round of public consultations relating to the dispute resolution policy before it’s brought to CIRA’s board of directors for approval. Coppola to join advertising/PR firmThe founder of now-defunct Filament Communications Inc has accepted a position with Ottawa-based Venture Communications, where he will be responsible for securing new clients and technical consulting. The move marks the final chapter in the Filament tale. Two weeks ago, Coppola told Canadian NEW MEDIA that he was trying to find a way to save the company he’d founded, and was in discussions with a number of potential partners. Now it remains to be seen what, if any, assets remain from Filament to be sold. More details. SofTV launches new softwareOttawa-based sofTV.net Inc has unveiled a new product that allows users to create RealNetworks video presentations from PowerPoint slides quickly. The tool, launched at this week’s Real conference in Seattle, will also work with the new RealONE player released Monday at the trade show. More details. Apparel-shopping software bumps conversion rate to 26% at Lands’ EndLands’ End Inc, the well-known clothing retailer, has released figures indicating that visitors using My Virtual Model software available on its web site are 26% more likely to purchase items. Rogers Media engages Q9 NetworksRogers Media has engaged the hosting services of Toronto-based Q9 Networks Inc for 17 of its radio stations. Q9 will provide physical space, bandwidth, security and other services to distribute the stations live on the Internet. The properties include Vancouver’s NEWS1130, Calgary’s 96CHFM, Toronto’s 680News, and Ottawa’s CHEZ 106.1. Q9 already hosts Rogers’ national shopping service, The Shopping Channel. More details.
