Broadcasters, producers applaud Jump’s move to drop retransmission tariff bid

The Canadian broadcast industry is applauding JumpTV.com Canada Inc’s decision to drop its bid for an Internet-specific retransmission tariff. But industry representatives caution that the fight against iCraveTV-like services hasn’t yet come to a head, and the sector will continue to lobby for changes to the Copyright Act, which apparently allow such services to operate. Toward that end, they say, it now becomes even more important for the departments of Canadian Heritage and Industry Canada to conclude their examination of the Act.
