James Macdonald, past chair of the board of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, has been appointed to eNblast’s board of directors. The appointment is effective Jan. 1. Currently an executive consultant to CTV and Bell Globemedia, he was formally senior VP and chief media services officer of BCE Media Ltd. He was also president and CEO of WIC Television Ltd., prior to its acquisition by CanWest Global Communications. CTV Inc. has named Donald Bastien as senior VP and general manager of CFCF Montreal. The appointment is effective Dec. 1. He will oversee the operations of CTV’s newly acquired television station in Montreal, including news, programming, sales and community relations. Previously, he spent ten years running CTV’s national sales office in Quebec as senior VP of sales. Steven Pasternak has joined Fireworks Entertainment in the newly created position of general counsel. He will run the various legal divisions of Fireworks, a subsidiary of CanWest Entertainment, as well as work on special projects. He comes from the firm of Hall Pasternak, where he provided outside counsel to Fireworks. John Robinson is stepping down as senior VP of business and legal affairs, a position he has held since 1997. He plans to pursue his interest in producing and will have a first-look agreement with Fireworks. Brad Phillips has been appointed VP and general manager of Chum Ltd.’s CKVU Vancouver television station. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the newly acquired station. Phillips has worked his way up in the radio business over the past 20 years, including as program director for six years at Z95.3 FM in Vancouver and more recently spending five years at Chum Radio in Ontario. He had left Chum Radio recently and returned to the west coast to start his own media consulting company in Vancouver. Lynne Munro has been named national VP of promotion at CanWest Global Communications Corp. She will be responsible for leading the ongoing promotion activities related to integration and convergence campaigns for the company, while continuing to direct the promotion of the National Post. Prior to working in the newspaper industry in promotion and marketing, she worked in broadcasting. Industry Canada deputy minister Peter Harder has been appointed to a newly formed United Nations task force on information and communications technologies. The body will examine ways of building universal interconnectivity to help bridge the global digital divide. The group is expected to contribute to two upcoming U.N. summits on the information society to be held in 2003 and 2005. Marie Giguère, of Montreal, has been named a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. She has been senior VP, chief legal officer and secretary of Molson Inc. since 1999. Her appointment by Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps is for three years.
