Stephen McCartney has stepped down as president/CEO of Futureway Communications Inc. Romeo DeGasperis will be replacing him on an interim basis. Michael Sabia has been named president/COO of BCE Inc. and COO of Bell Canada. He currently serves as president of BCE and vice-chair, corporate for Bell. Charles Childers has been appointed president of the Teleglobe division. The Nortel and Bell veteran replaces Terry Jarman, who stepped down as CEO "to pursue other interests." Teleglobe has named Patrick Pichette as EVP. He previously served as EVP planning and performance management at BCE. Darren Entwistle, the president/CEO of Telus Corp., has been elected to the board of directors of the TD Bank. He has led the western telco since June 2000. Chris McLorg is now VP engineering and construction for Sempra Fiber Links of San Diego. The Queen’s University graduate previously worked with 360Fiber Inc. and has experience at many 360networks Inc. subsidiaries. The vice-chair of Rogers Communications, Philip Lind, has been appointed a member of the Order of Canada. He was cited for his work in communications and his efforts in the voluntary sector. Mamoru Watanabe of the University of Calgary was made an officer of the Order for his work in promoting telemedicine. Edmond Thomas has been appointed chief of the FCC’s office of engineering and technology. The commission has also named Maureen McLaughlin as senior counsel and Harry Wingo as special counsel in the office of general counsel. The associate general counsel for the commission, Mark Schneider, has left to join the Sidley Austin Brown & Wood law firm in its Washington office. The founder of Clearnet Communications, David Simmonds, died in Uxbridge ON on January 14. The telecom veteran is survived by his wife Barbara and six children.
