Former broadcast executive Jim Thompson is the new CEO of the Canadian Olympic Association. He was president of specialty sports channel TSN and NetStar Communications. Prior to that, he worked at the CBC, serving as executive producer of the CBC’s broadcast of the Los Angeles Summer Olympics, and as the first executive producer of CBC Sports Weekend. He assumes the new position on March 4. Chris Jordan, the chief marketing and sales officer at CBC Television, is moving to Young & Rubicam Canada as president and chief executive. He started his career in 1980 at McCann-Erickson Advertising in Toronto. Peter Beyak joins Borden Ladner Gervais LLP as national coordinator of its recently launched national entertainment law group. Beyak was the founding principal and executive producer of EXTREME, a large format film. Prior to that, he practised general corporate and commercial law in Calgary. Cynthia Rathwell has been appointed VP of regulatory affairs at Star Choice Communications Inc. She will be responsible for overseeing all regulatory activities for Star Choice and Cancom, including spectrum management. She joined Star Choice from Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. Previous to that, she dealt with regulatory and copyright issues as VP at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Stéphane Le Bouyonnec has joined Secor Consulting as a partner. Previously, he was president and CEO of Innovitech Inc. and until recently of Metaforia Entertainment Inc. Rose Anna Schick has been named acting executive director of the Manitoba Motion Pictures Industries Association. Deborah-Lynn Vitale joins Eyes Post Group as sales and marketing representative. Peter Moss has resigned his post as president of Cinar Entertainment. He will remain a consultant for the children’s animation production house plagued by troubles over allegedly illegally obtaining Canadian tax credits. Also, Louis Fournier has returned to Cinar Corp. as head of distribution. He worked for eight years as VP of sales and coproductions before moving to TVA International in March 2000 as president of its youth and animation unit. Lisa Dunn has been appointed president of sales and acquisition at Toronto-based Kaleidoscope Entertainment Inc. She has been with the company for 10 years. Brad Pelman has been upped to VP of sales and distribution of the home video and television business at Lions Gate Entertainment. Chum has named John Voiles as regional sales manager for its stations CKVU13 in Vancouver and The New VI in Victoria. Previously, he was local sales manager for Global’s BCTV. Kevin Goldstein has been appointed manager of regulatory affairs at Corus Entertainment. Elizabeth McDonald and Glenn O’Farrell are just two of the new members appointed to the Banff Television Foundation’s board of governors. The vice-chair of Rogers Communications, Philip Lind, has been appointed a member of the Order of Canada. He was cited for his work in communications and his efforts in the voluntary sector. Producer Daniel Lanois and promoter Michael Cohl are to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in April during the Juno Awards.
