Two weeks after Michael Sabia took the reins at BCE Inc., he shuffled some senior executives. David McLennan has been appointed CFO of Bell Canada moving from the post of president of Bell ExpressVu, which has been taken over by Tim McGee. McGee, who was most recently chief legal officer, has his old post taken over by Richard Mannion. Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO) has appointed Frank Friesacher as director of business development. In this position, he will facilitate the coordination of the organization’s business development initiatives. Freisacher has more than 12 years of senior management experience in the high-tech industry, having most recently worked as director of strategic business development and netPCS business unit for Ottawa-based netPCS Networks Inc. As part of Canada’s IT week, community heroes are being honoured across the country. The Newfoundland and Labrador technology industry association handed out its awards as well. They went to: Wilf Bussey, Eva Luther, Derrick Moore, Cyril Organ, Sam Walters and Patricia Williams. Katherine Schultz has been appointed to the National Research Council for a three-year term. Schultz is currently VP research and development at the University of Prince Edward Island, where she is also an associate professor in the Department of Psychology. Peter Donolo, former communications director for the Prime Minister’s office, joined the Strategic Counsel to help launch a new strategic communications practice. He was director of communications for Jean Chrétien from 1993 to 1999. More recently, he served as Canadian Counsel General to Milan, Italy. Last year, he was senior VP corporate affairs and government relations at Air Canada. Certicom Corp. has announced a new senior management team. Fran Pascarella is appointed VP worldwide sales. She has more than 20 years experience and most recently served as VP channel marketing at Alcatel. Tony Rosati, VP marketing, also has more than two decades of experience. He was a co-founder of TimeStep Corp., where he was responsible for marketing and product management. Ross Bennett becomes VP research and development. He brings more than 15 years experience to the table and has been with the company for the past two years. Bill Franklin, VP professional services, comes with 20 years experience, the last four where he was responsible for professional services. Prior to joining Certicom, he was at GN Nettest. Maureen Berry, VP of human resources and corporate services, has more than 15 years of related experience. Prior to joining the company, she was VP human resources at NRX Global. Scott Vanstone, founder of Certicom, will continue as executive VP of strategic technology, leading the company’s R&D organization. SAMSys Technologies Inc. has hired Tres Wiley as its COO. Wiley joins the company from Texas Instruments where he worked in that firm’s RFID systems business. He will oversee SAMSys’ operations, corporate development and spearhead sales growth. Wiley has more than 20 years of senior management experience with RFID systems, telecommunications, GPS, information security and ultrasound technologies. Prior to his tenure at Texas Instruments, Wiley worked at Motorola where he held a number of positions in engineering, program management, business development and marketing.
