Unique Broadband Systems Inc. has made two senior-level appointments. John Kennedy has been named CFO and Gerald McGoey as its CEO. Kennedy joins UBS after holding senior-level financial management positions with several companies including Brookfield Properties Corp. and Deloitte & Touche. McGoey will also continue in his role of executive chair of the company’s board of directors, a position he took on at its AGM in March. Michel Guay has been appointed CEO of Wavesat Wireless Inc. He has also been named to the board of directors. Guay joins the company from Harris Corp., where he held a number of senior positions over his nine-year tenure with the communications equipment manufacturer. Mobile payment systems provider Oasis Technology has named David Pasieka president and CEO. He replaces Ashraf Dimitri, who has led the company as president, CEO and co-founder since its inception in 1989. Pasieka brings more than 23 years of global operations, senior management and business development experience to the table. He worked for World Gaming PLC, AT&T Canada, MetroNet Communications Corp., 724 Solutions Inc. and Bell Canada. The broadband networks group of Cygnal Technologies Corp. has appointed Debbie MacLeod as VP sales and marketing, effective immediately. She will be responsible for day-to-day sales and marketing activities, as well as pre-sales technical solutions and customer satisfaction. MacLeod has been an employee of the company since 1993. Calgary-based Wmode has bolstered the experience within its ranks by appointing wireless industry veteran Brian Josling to its board of directors. He served as founding president of Rogers Wireless Communications’ (then Rogers Cantel) western division. Previously, Josling was a senior executive in the music entertainment industry, serving both at CBS Records and Capitol EMI. He currently is president of Fuel Cells Canada, the industry association of Canadian fuel cell companies. eXI Wireless Inc. has appointed Alan Foster as president of its subsdiary eXI Wireless Systems Inc. He will be charged with leading the company’s wireless asset management and security business for health care and other industries. Foster is replacing Zahir Abji, who had held this position since 1998. Abji will work with Foster during the customary transition period. Prior to joining eXI, Foster held several senior-level positions with numerous companies, including COO of Meridex Networks, VP of Mobile Data Solutions Inc., VP Dynapro Systems and director of Motorola’s mobile data division. Brian Tobin, former minister of Industry Canada, has taken a non-voting, advisory position on the board of directors of the Canadian Recording Industry Association for a term of at least one year. The European Satellite Operators Association took a step forward in developing a common voice. It’s board of directors has appointed Fulvio Sansone as secretary general. Sansone will work to ensure that the views of satellite operators are shared with key decision-makers. The intent is to promote political, industrial, trade, and regulatory policies that serve the industry’s needs. Unity Wireless Corp. has promoted two of its engineers. Nart Bajj has been promoted to VP engineering from his previous position as senior RF design manager and Raffi Antepyan has moved up to senior VP advanced technologies. Prior to joining Unity Wireless, Bajj held senior-level engineering positions at Norsat International Inc. and ADC Wireless Systems. Antepyan’s new responsibilities now include overseeing the development of the company’s power amplifier technologies and facilitating strategic technology partnerships with potential customers. He joined the company in February 2001, bringing with him more than 20 years experience in research and development, sales, management and engineering.
