Frappier is a veteran of companies such as Future Source Communications, Maxxcom Communications, Foster-McCann Erickson Canada, and Thomson Newspapers. More details. Quebec announces cinema, A/V policy consultation, invites commentsThe Quebec government has launched a consultation process on the province’s film and audiovisual industry to develop a new policy paper on the sector. Toward that end, the government has issued two new consultation documents and has announced three days of hearings this September in Montreal, and one day in Quebec City. Submissions are due August 15. Shore is a partner in the firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, based in Ottawa. While Shore’s initial work for Amazon will undoubtedly be focused on quelling the storm of opposition by other Canadian bookstores to the company’s entry into this country, his lobbyist registration sheet indicates he will be dealing broadly with foreign investment with several government ministries including Canadian Heritage, Industry Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Justice, as well as the Privy Council Office. Bell Canada becomes major Alliance NumériQC partnerThe Alliance NumériQC has announced that Bell Canada has joined the organization as part of a $300,000 deal. Bell was previously a member of the CESAM Consortium multimedia, one of the Alliance’s three founding partners. More details. Vancouver’s ROI to launch Canadian iParenting spinoff siteROI Communications Inc., Vancouver, has signed an agreement with iParenting Media to set up a new Canadian web site for iParenting to serve that site’s 130,000 Canadian users. Editorial content will continue to be created by iParenting, but working with Canadian writers and experts. The site should also attract Canadian advertisers seeking to target this country’s users. A media release indicates that the site’s audience is 99% female, 87% first time parents, 76% employed, and with a household income of more than $60,000. More details. Modem’s Toronto office reportedly shutModem Media Inc. has reportedly shut its Toronto office, along with locations in Munich and Hong Kong. A media release from the company reads: "Given the slower than expected recovery of our U.S. business, we are resizing capacity and refocusing on markets with the highest potential and offices with scale and market strength." By closing the three offices, the company has cut just over 20 per cent of its work force. Modem is partly owned by ad firm Interpublic Group of Companies Inc. More details. FCC hears of "troubling" cable Internet restrictionsThe Washington Post reports that a coalition of high-tech companies are upset that agreements governing cable modem use could be overly restrictive and stifle the growth of the industry. A group calling itself the High Tech Broadband Coalition raised its concerns in a filing with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission last week. More details.
