Barry Kydd has been named the new EVP/CFO of Aliant Inc. He comes to the job after serving as VP global financial operations for Lucent Technologies Inc. Doug Taylor is the new president of PCNet International Inc. of Victoria. He will continue as COO, a role he assumed earlier this year (NL, May 7/02). He replaces Reed Sumida who has been dismissed by the board of directors. Sumida will still sit on the board but will not be renominated when his term expires. Nortel Networks Corp. has appointed Douglas Beatty as CFO, a promotion from his previous job as controller for the equipment manufacturer. He worked with Nortel from 1985 to 1995, spent four years with Sprint Canada Inc. as VP finance, and returned to Nortel in 1999. He replaces Terry Hungle, who was dismissed last winter (NL, Feb. 26/02). Syrus Madavi is the new president/COO of JDS Uniphase Corp. He has experience at ON Semiconductors, Burr-Brown Corp., and Texas Instruments Inc. He replaces Greg Dougherty, who had taken a leave of absence and has now left the company (NL, Apr. 23/02). Ottawa’s Zarlink Semiconductor has appointed Ericsson veteran Tsviatko Ganev to run its optical business unit in Sweden. The company has also named Jitesh Vadhia as head of its network access division. He is an alumnus of Marconi, Agilent and National Semiconductor. Kevin Vachon has left Nuvo Network Management Inc. but will stay on in an advisory role. His position as president/CEO is taken by Phil Weaver, while Rick Anderson replaces Vachon as chair of the board. Andrew Cameron is now Parliamentary relations officer at the CRTC, replacing Paulette Leclair, who has been working at Canadian Heritage on secondment. Cameron is a former manager of government relations at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. The federal government has appointed two new members to the Competition Tribunal. Lucille Riedle is a business consultant in New Brunswick, while Frank Jones is a law professor at the University of Alberta.
