George Cope, president and CEO of Telus Mobility, has had his executive employment agreement extended for another two years. Cope became CEO of Telus Mobility following the acquisition of Clearnet Communications Inc. in 2000 (RoW, Sept. 5/00). Former Motorola Canada Inc. president and CEO Micheline Bouchard has been appointed president and CEO of ART Advanced Research Technologies Inc. (ART), a developer of optical imaging technologies for the biomedical sector. She will also assume a seat on the board of directors. AirIQ has appointed Mark Kohler as its CFO, responsible for corporate financing, accounting principles, tax planning, financial reporting and legal compliance. He replaces Terry McCrae, who served as acting CFO, secretary and treasurer since the merger between AirIQ and eDispatch Wireless Data closed last September (RoW, Oct. 2/01). McCrae is currently VP corporate development at Lenbrook Corp., a founding member of AirIQ. Kohler will begin his duties on September 16. Previously, he was CFO and corporate secretary at NetDriven Solutions Inc. and CFO of Personus Inc., in addition to roles he held with other firms. Chris Schnarr has resigned at executive VP of Wireless Matrix Corp. to pursue other interests. Additionally, the company has announced that Gary Burchill has been appointed to the board of directors, replacing Ross Gyori who also resigned to pursue other interests. Burchill currently serves as president of the Center for Quality Management, a consulting management organization with over 100 member companies. PMC-Sierra has appointed Tom Sun as VP Asia Pacific operations. Sun was previously VP and GM of the company’s access-related products, which are used in telecommunications, and wireless infrastructure equipment. He joined PMC-Sierra in 1995 as product line manager for ATM/PDH/HDLC products. Prior to joining the company, he was the manager of the image processing group at MPR Teltech from 1987 to 1995. Elliptic Semiconductor has appointed Vin Ratford to its board of directors. He is formerly VP sales and marketing at Virage Logic. Inforetech Wireless has hired its original project manager Alex Doaga, who now assumes the role of VP engineering with the firm, which specializes in GPS technology for the golfing industry. The Surrey BC-based firm recently underwent a massive restructuring where it reduced staffing requirements and divested non-core assets. Doaga’s hiring is also part of that restructuring. Certicom Corp. has appointed James Fleck to its board of directors, replacing William Stewart who resigned after serving on the board for six years. Fleck is currently chair of Fleck Management Service Ltd., an investment advisory company. He serves on the boards of several public companies, including ATI Technologies and Rogers Multimedia Inc. Gordon Ritchie has been hired by Verizon Communications Inc. to lobby the federal government on issues surrounding foreign ownership provisions in the telecommunications and broadcasting industries. Based in Ottawa, Ritchie is CEO of Strategico Inc., but is also chair of Hill and Knowlton Canada’s public affairs practice. He joined H&K Canada in July 1999. In his duties, he has been charged to lobby Industry Canada, Canadian Heritage and the Privy Council Office. Mitec Telecom has made a series of changes to its management team, which are all effective immediately. Hubert Marleau has stepped down as chair of the board of directors, but remains on the board. Myer Bentob becomes non-executive chair of the board, but has also stepped down as CEO. Thomas Nuorimaa has left the company, but will remain on the board. Ken Allstaff, currently executive VP marketing and sales, has been named interim president and COO. The executive changes don’t affect the company’s ongoing search for a new CEO (RoW, April 3/02). Michael Cytrynbaum has been appointed to the board of directors of Peer 1 Network, a provider of Internet bandwidth and server co-location facilities. Cytrynbaum is currently chair of the board of Look Communications Inc. and Ignition Point Technologies. He is also a founding director of Microcell Telecommunications Inc.
