Brad Williams is now the president of PCNet International Inc. He will continue in his role as CFO, which he has held for two years. He succeeds Doug Taylor, who had a brief stint as president/COO of the B.C. ISP (NL, Aug. 13/02; May 7/02). The exodus continues at Nortel Networks Corp. as Richard Ricks departs as chief information officer. The equipment maker’s president of global operations Chahram Bolouri will handle the CIO responsibilities, assisted by Pat Rhodes, leader of global quality and process, until a permanent replacement is found. Gary Donahee will retire as president Americas next spring. His duties will be shared by wireless networks president Pascal Debon, wireline networks president Sue Spradley and enterprise accounts president Steve Schilling. Dion Joannou is moving from Europe to become president CALA sales, replacing Winston Estridge, who will retire next year. Phillip Bolger has stepped down as CFO/EVP of Interational Datacasting Corp. "to pursue new opportunities" but will continue as interim CFO until a replacement is appointed. The Ottawa-based firm hopes to have someone in place soon. Alan Krock has been named VP finance/CFO at PMC-Sierra Inc. He succeeds John Sullivan, who has retired from the Vancouver equipment company. Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. has named Stéphane Boisvert president. He previously worked at IBM for 17 years. Rob Woodbridge is now manager of the Ottawa Capital Network. He had been president of GetHow! Inc. before taking his new job with the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) subsidiary. Telus has switched the representatives of Verizon Communications on its board of directors. Daniel Petri, whose 31-year career at NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon has culminated in becoming group president International, now sits on the board of the western telco. Joining him is Alfred Giammarino, senior VP/CFO International, a 17-year veteran of GTE and Verizon. They are replacing Michael Masin, who is leaving Verizon, and Fares Salloum, who is retiring from the American telco. Kai-Uwe Ricke is the new CEO of Deutsche Telekom. The former head of the telco’s wireless division replaces Ron Sommer. Ander Igel has stepped down from the board of Telia-Sonera, while continuing as CEO-elect. His position on the board was causing problems for the planned merger of Telia, owned by the Swedish government, and the Finnish-owned Sonera. AOL Europe has appointed Giles Spackman as senior VP/CFO. He replaces Philip Rowley, who has been promoted to become president/COO of AOL Europe. Jonathan Adelstein has finally been approved as the fifth member of the Federal Communications Commission, nearly a year after his name was first suggested (NL, Nov. 19/01). The nomination of the Democratic representative had been bogged down in partisan wrangling in the U.S. Senate (NL, Sept. 23/02; Mar. 25/02; Feb. 26/02). Obituary John Goossens, president/CEO of Belgacom, died of a heart attack on November 8. The 57-year-old had led the Belgian telco since February 1995.
