William Chambers has been appointed VP of communications at CBC/Radio-Canada. Williams comes to the post from Milward Brown Goldfarb (previously Goldfarb Consultants) and prior to that he worked for The Molson Companies Ltd. As speculated, John Tory is giving up his position as chair and CEO of Rogers Cable Inc. to enter the Toronto mayoralty race. Edward Rogers was named president and co-CEO of Rogers Cable, effective February 7. Tory has begun the process of transitioning his duties and will remain as chair and co-CEO until he is ready to devote his efforts full-time to his campaign. As well, Dean MacDonald, senior VP of government relations at Rogers Communications Inc. and interim senior VP of sales and marketing at Rogers Cable, has been appointed executive VP and COO of Rogers Cable. The New Media Innovation Centre (NewMIC) has announced that Kenneth Cooke has joined as VP, business development and communications. Cooke was previously product marketing manager at Mobile Data Solutions Inc., and has also served with TELUS Corp. Judson Martin has been named senior executive VP and CFO at Alliance Atlantis. The appointment marks a return to the company for Martin, who already has three years of experience there. Stuart Snyder, formerly president and COO of WWF Entertainment, has been named to the post of president/CEO of CINAR Corp. Jacques Bensimon, government film commissioner and chair of the National Film Board of Canada, is a member of the 12-person steering committee of Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps’ forum on diversity and culture. Senator Laurier LaPierre, former chair of Telefilm Canada, and Cynthia Reyes, a former CBC employee who left the public broadcaster in 2000 to form ProMedia International Inc., a production and consulting company with a special interest in diversity, are also on the steering committee. Madeline Ziniak should have been identified as co-chair of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Task Force on Cultural Diversity in the February 7 issue.
