Stanley Stewart has resigned as president/CEO of Amtelecom Group Inc. Stewart, who joined the company in November 1997, will continue as a director until the next AGM. John MacDonald has stepped down as a director of Unique Broadband Systems after serving for about one year. His new duties as president of AT&T Canada necessitated the resignation (NL, Dec. 2/02). Biotonix Inc., a Montreal electronic health company, has appointed Brian Edwards as CEO. He had been CEO of BCE Emergis until last year (NL, May 21/02). Lisa Mitchell is transferring from SaskTel to become VP marketing of its Navigata Communications Inc. subsidiary. She spent eight years with the provincial telco, most recently as director of sales, national accounts, and has also worked for Cadillac Fairview. Tom Brauser is the new VP national sales for Navigata. He had been GM of western Canada for Bell Nexxia Carrier Services and has experience at BC Tel and Telus. SaskTel has also made several appointments to its board of directors. Reg Bird, chair of TRLabs, is now chair of the SaskTel board. He is a former president/CEO of Manitoba Tel and has experience at Nortel. Consultant Tracey Bakkeli has been elected vice-chair. She is also a board member of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corp. Saskatoon lawyer Doug Richardson has been appointed to the board. The former political assistant is a partner in the law firm of McKercher, McKercher & Whitmore. He is also registered as a lobbyist for the Crown Investment Corp., providing a liaison between several federal departments and the Saskatchewan agency. Ottawa software manufacturer Linmor Inc. announced that, due to a 19% across-the-board reduction in staff, it is reducing the size of its executive team. The company is now being run by president/CEO James Cragg, CTO Bogdan Materna, and CFO Sabina Dawson. CryptoLogic Inc. has appointed Michael Starzynski as CTO. He spent 13 years at Bell Canada and has worked for Financial Models Co. and CGI Canada. Claudine Simson is now corporate VP of Motorola and CTO of DigitalDNA Laboratories, the company’s semiconductor unit. She held the CTO position at IPVALUE Management and spent 23 years at Nortel Networks. Simon Duffy, the ex-CFO of European telco Orange, is the new COO of British cableco NTL Inc. Duffy will handle the day-to-day operations of the company, reporting to CEO Barclay Knapp. The Public Policy Forum has named AT&T Canada Corp. chair Purdy Crawford as one of five winners of its testimonial award. Previous telecom honourees are former BCE Inc. executives Lynton "Red" Wilson (2000) and Jean de Grandpré (1989).
