Ontario man arrested with illegal satellite equipmentThe RCMP, with assistance from Industry Canada, has arrested Terry Belanger of James St. in Mattawa ON and charged him with several counts under the Radiocommunication Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. The RCMP seized several pieces of equipment traditionally used to reprogram access cards used to illegally obtain U.S. satellite signals. Airborne launches more games for BREWAirborne Entertainment Inc. has released the titles of four new games that run on the Qualcomm-developed binary runtime environment for wireless (BREW) platform. The line-up includes Six Feet Under: The Parlour Game, YM Pink Lemonade, MAXIM Gentlemen's Ringers & Manly Tones, and Bazooka Bubble Blast. Airborne, fast becoming one of the best known names in the wireless entertainment industry, also develops games for the various other wireless operating environments. Infowave and Dell team up for marketingInfowave Software Inc. and Dell Computer Corp. have inked a co-marketing agreement under which the two companies will cooperate in marketing Infowave's Wireless Business Engine system with Dell's GPRS wireless access offering in the U.K. business market. "By combining the strength of Dell's line of GPRS-ready devices with our enterprise-class wireless software, we will be able to bring comprehensive mobility solutions to our U.K. customers," Infowave executive VP, sales and marketing Bill Tam said in a news release. Redline joins WiMAX ForumRedline Communications Inc. has joined the WiMAX Forum as a principal member to help promote and certify the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless access equipment based on the 802.16a standard. The recently approved standard provides enough bandwidth to support 100 businesses with T1-type connectivity and thousands of homes with DSL-type connectivity with a single base station. Redline is currently developing a 802.16a compliant product, but has had great success to date selling its AN-50 OFDM-based product. Bell Mobility offers photo album serviceCanada's largest wireless operator Bell Mobility is now offering its subscribers the ability to carry their own photo albums on their cell phones. The service also allows subscribers to personalize their screen savers. New subscribers have free use of the service until July 31, while existing subscribers only have to pay for the wireless web minutes they use to download the images. Users can save their images to www.bell.ca/myimages or www.mysolo.ca before downloading them to the handset. Syscan offers new RFID serviceSyscan International has introduced a new multi-purpose RFID system for the transport of perishable products. Company president Axel Striefler unveiled the product at the RFID World Conference in Fort Lauderdale FL last week. The integrated RFID temperature tracking system can be used throughout the world to record various temperature ranges experienced by a particular perishable product as it travels to its destination. The multi-part system includes a programmable temperature-sensitive label, software and a reader. UBS unveils new licence-exempt productUnique Broadband Systems Inc. (UBS) has introduced the Connections II, a point-to-point radio for use in the recently allocated 24.05-24.25 GHz licence-exempt spectrum. Industry Canada opened up the spectrum earlier this month, which was announced in DGTP-005-03. In other UBS news, the company has also completed delivery of initial pre-production IFF/Tacan Test Set Calibrator (ITTSC) units for the United States Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division. The contract was facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corp., which provided a government-backed guarantee on contract performance on this project. Psion Teklogix introduces new productPsion Teklogix, a supplier of rugged handheld computers, has unveiled its latest product for the North American market. The 7535 is a Windows CE .NET-based device that offers the durability required for mobile data collection in harsh environments. The device can withstand high levels of shock and vibration as well as multiple drops to concrete from 6.5 feet. WaveRider supplies gear for Michigan networkWaveRider Communications Inc. will supply Last Mile Solution products to ISP Wireless Group's new broadband wireless network in Michigan. ISP Wireless received funding from the Michigan Broadband Development Authority in April to support the rollout of wireless broadband systems in seven communities. Communities to be served are Hemlock, Clare, Coleman, Rosebush, Beaverton and Gladwin. ISP Wireless anticipates completing the network rollout by this July. The Michigan development authority has already provided funding to ISP Wireless for the deployment of wireless networks in several other communities including Ithaca, Alma, Breckinridge and others. Sierra Wireless unveils ruggedized modem cardVancouver-based Sierra Wireless Inc. has introduced a family of wireless modem cards designed for harsh environments in North America and Europe. The next-generation products build upon the success of the company's previous MP200 ruggedized modem for CDPD networks. The MP GPRS 750, which is now available on a commercial basis, and the MP CDMA 555, which is slated for launch later this year, will make up the new family of ruggedized wireless modems. Both products are designed to operate as part of an in-vehicle mobile system. Mitec Telecom subsidiary wins contractMitec Telecom Inc.'s Swedish subsidiary BEVE has been awarded a $5.6 million contract extension for the supply of point-to-point tactical radio equipment. The radios are to be used by a major European customer for defence purposes. The contract win comes at a time when BEVE is undergoing a significant restructuring. CSI Wireless launches new tracking deviceCSI Wireless Inc. has introduced Fleet-Link, a tracking and reporting device for remotely managing tractor trailers and other mobile assets and cargo. The Fleet-Link product is an extension of the company's Asset-Link family of fleet tracking and telematics products. The new telematics product is equipped with both cellular and GPS communications capabilities and can operate on the truck's existing power system or can be solar-powered. The solar-power feature allows unpowered trailers to continue reporting their status for up to 60 days without any external electrical source. NovAtel acquires CMC Electronics product lineNovAtel Inc. has acquired the non-aviation GPS OEM product line from CMC Electronics. The acquisition follows a memorandum of understanding the two companies signed in February. The acquisition will allow NovAtel to expand its addressable market in core segments and also open doors to new vertical markets. More specifically, the new product line will extend NovAtel's current upgradeable L1 and dual frequency (L1/L2) product line into the mid-level L1 market. Stratos wins contract with Australian defenceStratos Global Corp. has won a contract with the Australian Defence Force to provide voice and data communications services. The services will be used for strategic, tactical and logistic communications among a number of its naval and land-based units. Wi-LAN products gain traction in RussiaCalgary-based Wi-LAN Inc. has announced that two Russian wireless network product distributors are now carrying the company's Ultima3 Series product line. CompTek International and Diamond Communications add the Ultima3 Series of fixed wireless access products to their list of integrated network systems. The Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation recently approved the Ultima3 Series product family for distribution in the large country.
