Montreal-based World Audio-Visual Entertainment Systems Inc. (W.A.V.E.S.) has received the green light from the CRTC to broadcast special sporting and cultural events to spectators on specialized mobile devices, something the company has already been doing for nearly a year under special permission from the commission. W.A.V.E.S.’ ability to offer such a service in Canada has now been formalized in Broadcasting Public Notice 2003-35, issued on July 10, setting out an exemption order for the type of service W.A.V.E.S. offers.
