Peter Strom has been promoted to COO of March Networks Corp. after serving as senior VP of sales, marketing and product management. Before joining the Ottawa equipment manufacturer earlier this year, he worked at Gyyr Inc., Sensormatic, Honeywell and Mosler Inc. Versatel Networks Inc. has hired Steven Chou as director of sales. He worked at iSoftel, Lucent Technologies and GTE International before signing on with the Hull company. Tom Getty has joined Charter Telecom Inc. in an unspecified capacity. He had been senior internetworking engineer for Nortel Networks Corp. Bob Neal has rejoined the board of Voice Mobility International Inc. after a seven-month absence. He had previously served as Aliant Telecom’s representative on the board; now he will be an independent director. IP Applications has appointed Mark Sampson to its board of directors. He has experience at NxGen Networks, AT&T Canada, B.C. Tel, and CUE Data West. BCNet has named Jim Tom of the University of British Columbia as its chief applications officer and Simon Fraser University’s Keir Novik as applications project leader. The non-profit society is also welcoming four new members to its board of directors: Joseph Mendez, CIO of Northern Health Authority; David Nikolejsin, executive director of planning and engineering at Common IT services for the B.C. Government; Steven Grundy, associate VP academic and information services at Royal Roads University; and David Kilpatrick, VP government, education and medical at Telus. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has appointed its officers for 2003-04. Clyde Beattie of Yorkland Investments Corp. will be chair, with Paul Andersen of E-Gate Communications Inc. serving as vice-chair. Maureen Cubberley of ASM Advanced Strategic Management Consultants is corporate secretary and John Demco of UBC is treasurer. Rodger Woock has been named chief economist of the Federal Communications Commission’s wireline competition bureau. He joins the FCC from AT&T Broadband Labs and is a veteran of Bellcore, US WEST Advanced Technologies and MediaOne Labs. Obituaries Roy Savage, formerly of CN Telecommunications and its successor AT&T Canada, died in Toronto on September 26 of cancer. He is survived by wife Lesley and daughter Katherine. Dmytro "Mike" Danylkiw, an alumnus of Bell and founder of the PlanTel consulting firm, died of cancer in Victoria on September 28. He is survived by wife Mary, sons John and Brian and daughter Anne-Marie.
