Nortel buys out Koor stake in Israeli operationsNortel Networks Corp. has assumed total control of Nortel Networks Israel (Sales and Marketing) Ltd. The Canadian equipment manufacturer is buying the 28% stake of the Israeli operations previously held by Koor Industries. Teleglobe buys American VoIP company IXTCTeleglobe International Holdings Ltd. has purchased VoIP wholesaler IXTC Corp. The VoIP division, doing business under the Teleglobe name, will continue to operate out of IXTC’s headquarters in Princeton NJ. Rogers imposes limits on high-volume high-speedRogers Communications Inc. has been advising some of its high-speed Internet subscribers they are in danger of losing service or being subject to bit caps for using too much bandwidth. Posters to the Residential Broadband Users’ Association web site say they have been told they can use no more than 1 gigabyte per day, while others say lower levels apply. Bell Canada files Part VII against FCI BroadbandBell Canada has filed a Part VII application calling on FCI Broadband to comply with MDU access conditions set out by the CRTC. Northwestel introduces new prefix in YellowknifeNorthwestel has unveiled the 765 prefix for telephone numbers in Yellowknife NWT. CRTC grants Aliant forbearance on IXPL serviceIn Telecom Decision 2003-74, the CRTC is forbearing ruling on interexchange private line (IXPL) service for Aliant Telecom Inc. Shaw family buys additional shares in cablecoThe Shaw family has purchased 700,000 Class B non-voting shares in Shaw Communications Inc. This brings their total holdings to nearly 18.9 million shares. AMEI buys VoIP system developer FaubourgAll America Casting International Inc. (AMEI) has acquired Faubourg Voice Video & Data Services Inc. through a share transaction. The Vancouver company expects to expand its VoIP offerings to MDUs and MBUs following the purchase. Northwestel to send $2.8 million to central fundIn Telecom Decision 2003-75, the CRTC has ordered Northwestel to remit the $2.8 million in its deferral account to the Central Fund Administrator. The northern ILEC must send the money by November 12. Critical Telecom partners with PlastiComm on DSLOttawa’s Critical Telecom Corp. has entered a joint service agreement with PlastiComm Industries Inc. The agreement will see Critical’s DSL extender offered alongside PlastiComm’s fibre deployment services. Telesat and March combine on telehealth projectTelesat and March Networks are working together to deliver telehealth services. The $1.5 million project will begin trials in the fall of 2004. Torontonian charged with Nigerian spam fraudNicholas Horvath-Howard of Toronto is facing charges in Danbury CT of attempted larceny. A woman in the area lured Horvath-Howard to Danbury after he was sent as a messenger for a group sending spam that was allegedly trying to get money out of Nigeria. Meanwhile, authorities in Australia are prosecuting Nick Marinellis on 17 counts of theft and fraud for his part in a similar Nigerian spam scam.
