Infowave Software Inc. has appointed three new people to its board of directors. Gerald Trooien, a holder of a substantial number of Infowave shares, will replace his former nominee Bill Weiss. Christine Rogers, former senior VP of operations at Mobile Data Solutions Inc. and senior VP of global services at Pivotal Corp., and Geoffrey Belsher, partner of Blake Cassels and Graydon LLP, have joined the board. Stephen Wu has stepped down from the board. David Colville, vice-chair of the CRTC and commissioner from Atlantic Canada, has been re-appointed for a one-year term. Steve Hall has been named VP sales and marketing at SAMSys Technologies Inc. Hall, who formerly worked at Peak Technologies, is charged with increasing sales, reinforcing the company’s commitment to value-added resellers and developing its marketing presence in the RFID industry. He brings more than 11 years experience in sales and marketing, having served as VP of sales and business development at Peak. Prior to Peak, Hall was VP of Sensormatic Electronics Corp.’s commercial division, now known as Tyco. Eugene Kwong has joined Novanet Communications Ltd. as director of technical services. He brings more than 20 years experience in the broadcast and telecom markets where he designed and installed numerous satellite, microwave and fibre systems for Canadian broadcasters, specialty channels, telcos and satellite TV providers. He most recently served as director of technical services for Comlink Systems, a division of Cygnal Technologies. Mark Rausa has been appointed president and CEO of Expertech Network Installation Inc. Rausa joins the company following 14 years with Bell Mobility where he most recently served as VP of engineering and operations. Prior to working at Bell Mobility, he held a number of senior management positions in technology development, marketing and international consulting. Doug Young has retired as vice-chair of Cygnal Technologies Corp.’s board of directors. He will, however, continue to act as an independent director of the company. Shaw Communications Inc. has appointed Zoran Stakic as VP information services. He will be responsible for strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation and coordination of the company’s information services initiatives. Stakic joins the company with a background in IT planning having held a number of senior-level positions in the telecommunications industry. The Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) has appointed two VPs this month. Bobby Franklin will join the CTIA as VP of government affairs on January 20 and direct the CTIA’s advocacy efforts before Congress, state legislatures and regulatory agencies. Prior to joining CTIA, Franklin served as VP, federal government affairs and head of ALLTEL’s Washington D.C. office. John Walls has been appointed VP communications and will officially begin duties on February 23. Walls has more than 25 years of experience as a broadcaster and reporter. He has received several awards for his broadcasting work, including on-location anchoring of the Timothy McVeigh execution coverage. Ed Kamins, CIO and senior VP of Avnet Inc., has joined InterDigital Communications Corp.’s board of directors. Kamins will serve on the board’s audit committee. The company now has eight directors, six of which are independent. Timothy Donahue, president and CEO of Nextel Communications Inc., has assumed the chair of the newly re-chartered Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC VII). Donahue has served in his current capacity at Nextel since August 1999 and previously was president and COO beginning in January 1996. Juha Christensen, the former chief of Microsoft Corp.’s mobile unit, has joined Macromedia to head the company’s newly created mobile and devices business unit. Christensen announced his plans to leave Microsoft last November.
