Cygnal Technologies Corp. has announced that Jim Taylor has resigned as president of the service provider solutions group effective March 29 to pursue other entrepreneurial activities. Taylor will be replaced by Todd Rutherford, currently president of Cygnal’s White Radio division. The company is now actively searching for Rutherford’s replacement. GDI Global Data Inc. has announced that Dan Erlich, a senior executive with Imperial Packaging, has joined the company’s board of directors. The Wireless Innovation Network of B.C. has announced the members of the panel that will judge its Wireless Innovation Contest 2004. The members are: Mikko Moilanen, director of Nokia’s entertainment and media business and production site in Vancouver; Chris Langdon, director of business and enterprise solutions at Telus Mobility; Glenn Ballman, founder of Onvia; Michael Calyniuk, global IT procurement partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers; Jenny Yange, director of BDC Venture Capital; and Kirk Laughlin, editor of America’s Network. The following have registered as lobbyists for Canadian telecommunications firms. Wido Holville, president of Emerging Markets Holville Inc., has registered as a lobbyist for SR Telecom Inc. He is charged with lobbying Industry Canada and Technology Partnerships Canada. Ken Mackay, president of Policy Insights Inc., has registered as a lobbyist for DRS Signals Solutions (West). He will lobby the government in the areas of defence and government procurement. Mackay will also provide government relations support to access opportunities in the communications and signals areas of the Canadian armed forces. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has appointed Mario Palumbo as VP of engineering. Palumbo joined the company in 1998 following its acquisition of Alex Computer Systems. He was most recently director of engineering for Spectrum Signal’s Voice over Packet product line, in which the company has stopped investing. Palumbo will be responsible for leading development of the company’s software reconfigurable products. Paul Healy has been appointed president of Bell Canada’s western Canadian region, responsible for all aspects of the company’s operations in Alberta and British Columbia. Healy will also lead Bell West where he replaces president and CEO Randy Reynolds, who is retiring after 30 years with Bell Canada. YAK Communications Inc. has announced three senior-level executive appointments. Patricia Golding has been named COO – Canadian operations. She has more than 20 years experience in financial services, information technology and telecommunications management. Golding was most recently with Telus Corp. and previously held several senior positions with the Bank of Nova Scotia. David Hurwitz has been COO – U.S. operations and acquisitions. He joins the company with more than 20 years general management, business development M&A, and strategic sales and marketing experience. Valerie Ferraro has been appointed VP strategic business and carrier relationship development. She joins the firm from Bell Canada where she spent 30 years in a wide range of sales, marketing, customer service and regulatory duties. Eugene Polistuk has resigned as CEO and chair of the board of directors of electronics manufacturing giant Celestica Inc. He publicly announced his decision after the company revealed it posted a US$165-million loss in its fourth quarter. His departure takes effect immediately. Polistuk, who has led the company since 1994, is replaced on an interim basis by Stephen Delaney, president of Celestica’s American operations. Richard Cavangh, VP of radio at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, is leaving the association to become a private consultant. His departure is effective February 27. Mamma.com Inc. has made organization changes at the senior executive level. David Goldwin is now executive chair of the company. Guy Faure becomes president and CEO and Daniel Bertrand is now executive VP and CFO. Patrick Hopf becomes VP business development, Patrick Gagne is VP sales, and Joel Lamantia becomes VP operations.
