David Hurwitz is now COO U.S. operations & acquisitions. Formerly president/CEO of Capsule Communications, he has also worked for RCN Corp. and Rochester Telecommunications. Patricia Golding is COO Canadian operations. She is a veteran of Telus Corp. and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Valerie Ferraro is the new VP strategic business & carrier relationship development. She spent 30 years at Bell Canada, most recently as senior director of carrier wholesale services. Norm Peacey has left LondonConnect Inc. after several years as its regulatory affairs specialist. He tells Network Letter that he will be resurrecting his old business of offering tariff service bureau functions to small telcos. Yangtze Telecom Corp. has named Sam Chung as its new CFO. He held executive positions with Creative Design Ltd., EAS International Inc. and Manchu Inc. before joining the Vancouver company. Tom Nagle is the new executive VP at Datex. Before joining the CRM firm in 1999, he worked at MDR Technologies and Bell Canada. Todd Rutherford is being moved from president of White Radio, a subsidiary of Cygnal Technologies Corp., to become president of the service provider solutions group at Cygnal. The alumnus of Bell Canada, IBM and Lucent/Avaya replaces Jim Taylor, who has resigned. A new president for White Radio will be announced soon. David Toews, VP finance and administration at Leitch Technology Corp., has been promoted to CFO. Toews, who has been with the company for three years, replaces Reg Tiessen, who has left the firm. Cogeco Inc. has elected Pierre Comtois and Claude Garcia to its board of directors. Comtois is president of Optimum Asset Management Inc. while Garcia is president of Canadian operations at Standard Life. Jozef Straus, former CEO of JDS Uniphase, is now on the board of directors of Galazar Networks. Joining him on the board of the Ottawa semiconductor chipmaker is Claude Champagne, formerly of Marconi and Nortel Networks Corp. Several telecom firms have registered new lobbyists with the federal government.
