Kathleen Webb, a former president of Digital Eve - Toronto, has joined the New Media Business Alliance as a full-time staffer. She will take on research, lobbying, and administrative tasks for the Toronto-based group. Earnescliffe Strategy Group principal Harry Near and senior consultant Charles King have registered with the federal government as lobbyists on behalf of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. Their registrations list their responsibility as providing "strategic advice related to broadcasting issues." Greg Mercer, president of Strategic Growth and Relations Management, has registered as a federal lobbyist on behalf of Newfoundland ISP and web services company Infotech Canada Inc. He will be lobbying to win Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency funding. Alain Gourd has retired as executive VP, corporate, from Bell Globemedia. He has served with BCE Inc. in a variety of capacities over the years, including as president and CEO of BCE Media and as president of Cancom. Paul Sparkes will assume overall responsibility for regulatory matters, in addition to his duties as senior VP, corporate and public affairs. DECODE Entertainment has made two promotions from within its ranks. Dan Fill is now VP of interactive, and Dominique Bazay is now VP of international sales. Lynda Brown has taken over from Jane Green as executive director of New Media BC while Green is on maternity leave. Brown is a former president of Wired Woman. Shaw Communications Inc. has appointed Rahul Sharma to the position of VP, on demand television services. He joins Shaw with a background in marketing and brand/product management. Ben Ratner, director and star of Moving Malcolm, has joined the screenings selection committee for the Vancouver International Digital Festival (VIDFEST). VIDFEST is accepting international submissions in areas including digital film, animation and interactive design until March 15. The festival takes place from June 25-26.
