Pierre Karl Péladeau, most recently president and CEO of Quebecor Media, has been appointed president and CEO of Quebecor World Inc. He replaces Jean Neveu, who has been interim president and CEO of Quebecor World since March 2003. At Quebecor Media, Serge Gouin becomes president and CEO, and Erik Péladeau has been appointed chair of the board. Gouin was previously chair of the board of Quebecor Media. As a result of his new position at Quebecor Media, Gouin stepped down immediately from the board of Astral Media. Carol Darling has been named executive director of the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA). She will be responsible for the general management of the association as well as providing broadcasting expertise and research to NABA members. She was previously VP of business development and engineering at the Women’s Television Network (WTN), and is currently chair of Canadian Digital Television Inc. Charles King, senior consultant with the Earnscliffe Strategy Group, has registered as a lobbyist for Cable Public Affairs Channel Inc. (CPAC). Dale Godsoe and Stephen Kakfwi have been appointed to the board of VisionTV. Godsoe is VP of external at Dalhousie University in Halifax NS, and a partner in Maritime Broadcasting System. Kakfwi was premier of the Northwest Territories from 2000 to 2003. MTS president and CEO Bill Fraser has been tapped to be president and CEO of the expanded company once it takes over Allstream (formerly AT&T Canada). Cheryl Barker, currently president and COO of MTS subsidiary MTS Communications, will head up the Manitoba operations of the joint company, and John MacDonald, currently president and COO of Allstream, will be responsible for national enterprise business. Wayne Demkey, MTS executive VP of finance and CFO, will assume the same position at the combined company. Pierre-Louis Smith is the new VP of radio at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. He replaces Richard Cavanagh, who left the organization to set up his own consulting practice (CCR, Feb. 13/04). Bill Ballard and Mary Golfman have resigned as directors of the board of Devine Entertainment. Their other commitments do not afford them enough time to devote to the company. Ron Feddersen, the former president of Schindler Elevator Corp. of Canada and the current executive principal of Atticus Interim Management, replaces Golfman on the board. Feddersen will represent David Wollach and Forvest Trust. Michael Adams joins Rogers Cable Inc. as executive VP and COO, effective April 20. He will be responsible for engineering, network operations, customer operations, information technology, and implementation of Rogers Cable’s local telephony initiative. He has 20 years of experience in the cable television and competitive local telecommunications industries. He replaces Dean MacDonald (CCR, March 11/04). Janet Yale has stepped down as chair of the Canadian Television Fund after serving two years in the role. Her departure from the position was anticipated after she left her post as president and CEO of the Canadian Cable Television Association to become executive VP of government and regulatory affairs at TELUS last September. Judith Brosseau, senior VP of programming and communications of Les Chaînes Télé Astral inc. and vice-chair of the CTF board, will fill in as interim chair until the CTF’s annual general meeting in June. Colin Campbell and Beverly Brooks have resigned from the board of directors of Look Communications Inc. Replacements on the board for the duo have yet to be named. Sylvie Courtemanche, formerly executive VP at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, is working three days a week as director of regulatory affairs at TELUS Québec. She is continuing her broadcasting practice during the remaining two days a week. Thelma Chalifoux has registered as a lobbyist for Regina-based Metcom Productions Inc. She will be lobbying for funding for a Métis Television Network. Sylvie Powell, longtime industry consultant, has joined the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada to manage communications and membership as it prepares for its centennial anniversary in 2007.
