Octanewave and Path combine technology strengthsOctanewave Software Inc., a provider of enterprise mobility software, and Path Information Systems Inc., a logistics and operational management software solutions company, have formed a technology partnership that will combine Octanewave’s Enterprise Mobility Platform’s mobile capabilities with Path’s service logistics solution, E-Path. Using its new partner’s technology, Path will extend the capabilities of E-Path to provide real-time information flow. FERMA and Convedia ink marketing agreementFERMA, a global IP-based service solutions provider, and Convedia Corp., a provider of carrier-class IP media processing platforms, have signed a marketing partnership agreement to jointly develop prepaid and messaging applications for IP and 3G wireless service providers. The partnership will develop an integration between Convedia’s media servers and FERMA’s multi-play prepaid service solutions for next-generation mobility networks, while creating a service platform to support an even broader range of IP/3G-based services such as unified communications, mobile Internet and push-to-talk. Xplore and Psion Teklogix sign system integration dealXplore Technologies Corp., an international developer, producer and distributor of rugged wireless tablet PC computer systems, has entered into a systems integration agreement with Psion Teklogix, a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless data collection. Psion will now sell Xplore’s ix104 family as part of its mobile computing and wireless data collection solutions for targeted global industries and business applications. These include airports, field service, automotive, supply chain, government, ports and transportation. Primus Telecom scores $42-million loanPrimus Telecommunications Group Inc., a telecommunications services provider, has announced that its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary, Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc., has entered into a loan agreement with a Canadian financial institution. This will provide for a $42-million two-year non-revolving term loan credit facility bearing an interest rate of 7.75%. The agreement allows the proceeds to be used for general corporate purposes and is secured by the assets of Primus’ Canadian operations. Class action suit launched against Nortel NetworksConnecticut law firm Scott and Scott, LLC has extended the period in a securities class action lawsuit against Nortel Networks Corp. The case has been brought to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The firm now represents people who purchased or otherwise acquired Nortel securities between April 24, 2003 and March 12, 2004. Telesat installs new uplink system for CTVTelesat Canada has installed a new digital uplink system for CTV Inc. as part of a six-year contract that will provide the broadcaster with greater flexibility to distribute television programming across Canada. This includes a full-period C-band channel, as well as a Tandberg Television digital video compression system, which will allow the BCE Inc. subsidiary to create eight standard-definition television channels that it will use to distribute programming from Telesat’s Toronto teleport to 24 CTV-owned and affiliated stations across Canada. Ottawa gives CFDCs $2 millionThe Government of Canada has awarded $2,031,000 to northern Quebec’s Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs). This will enable the CFDCs to offer the new Nord-du-Québec Rural Enterprise program, while allowing it to and replenish its investment funds. The rural enterprise program will allow entrepreneurs to participate in economic leadership activities and SMEs to access the services of outside specialists for developing and marketing products or services. TPC withholds money for Infowave SoftwareInfowave Software Inc. has announced that it has been advised by Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC) that it is withholding payments on funding claims submitted to date until the completion of an audit that is currently underway. Infowave has not received any funds from its TPC grant to date. The amount of the claim is US$785,000. 01 Communique inks agreement with AvantGo01 Communique Laboratory Inc., a remote access solutions provider, announced an agreement with AvantGo, a free service that delivers personalized mobile web sites to PDAs and smartphones, where Communique’s I’m InTouch remote access service will be available through AvantGo. I’m InTouch allows mobile professionals to access the information they need to run their business from anywhere, anytime. C-COM Satellite ships antenna system to SATMEXC-COM Satellite Systems Inc. has delivered its first iNetVu Mobile two-way high-speed Internet satellite antenna system to the Mexico City-based Mexican satellite operator SATMEX. SATMEX will use the system to deliver two-way high-speed mobile Internet services across Latin America using its own satellites and network facilities. According to C-COM, the iNetVu antenna will be able to offer companies operating in remote locations the same instant and secure voice and data communications that is currently only available to companies based in large metropolitan areas. Spectrum Signal awarded $1.2M defence contractSpectrum Signal Processing Inc. has received a contract valued at approximately $1.2 million for its flexComm SDR-3000 platform from an international defence contractor. Spectrum will supply six of the systems for use in the development and field trial testing of a ground-based mobile electronic warfare system. FlexComm SDR-3000 software reconfigurable products will provide advanced signal processing and transceiver functions in a truck-mounted electronic warfare system. ZIM records doubling of revenue in 2004Q3ZIM Technologies International, a mobile consumer and enterprise application developer for the global two-way short message service channel, has announced its fiscal 2004 third-quarter results for the period ended Feb. 29, 2004. Its revenue was US$762,905, a 111% increase compared to the same quarter last year. Revenues for the first nine months of this year were US$1,591,823, a 37% increase compared to last year. Aliant completes wireless network expansionAliant Inc. has completed its CDMA 1X data network expansion to mirror its digital coverage. The company has also announced that 1X network speeds have doubled, now offering customers speeds of up to 153 kbps. It offers customers enhanced graphics, faster Internet connection speeds and quick and convenient access to email and information. WebTech Wireless offers fleet management in BrazilBurnaby BC-based WebTech Wireless has announced that Crown Telecom, the company’s exclusive product distributor in Brazil, has inked an agreement with a subsidiary of Geographic Data Technology (GDT). GDT’s Digibase will work with WebTech and Crown Telecom to sell commercial fleet management services to enterprises in Brazil. Mitec ships product to European customerMitec Telecom Inc. will soon begin shipping a range of wireless subsystems to a European-based telecom equipment supplier. The products will support networks based on the GSM/EDGE protocol operating at 900 MHz. With this agreement, Mitec becomes an approved supplier by this customer. BelAir joins Wi-Fi AllianceOttawa-based BelAir Networks has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance. BelAir’s VP of marketing Phil Belanger says in a news release that this demonstrates the company’s commitment to current and ongoing development of Wi-Fi standards.
