Jill Rosenberg has been named national organizer of digital media at the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA). She will be responsible for continuing to develop ACTRA’s digital media strategy and facilitate the engagement of ACTRA members in digital media productions, including web sites, video games and online advertising. Most recently, Rosenberg was president, creative director and producer at Girl From Mars Inc. Kristina Babulic has joined the Canadian Cable Television Association (CCTA) as director of communications. Before joining the CCTA, she was a senior consultant with National Public Relations in Ottawa and Montreal. She has also worked for Nortel Networks Corp., Newbridge Networks, iStar internet and the Department of Canadian Heritage. Pat Ferns is being replaced as Banff Television Festival chairman by Robert Montgomery of the investment firm Achilles Partners, which will run the 2004 event. Ferns will continue on with the new body taking over the festival, focusing on international development. Lynda Brown becomes executive director at New Media B.C. Jane Green, the former executive director and founder of the association, has taken maternity leave. Brown has worked in the educational technology and interactive media fields for the past 14 years. William Allen has joined TELUS Communications Corp. as senior communications business partner. He will be based in Ottawa, providing communications support to the company’s government and regulatory affairs group. Allen formerly handled communications for the Media Awareness Network and the Canadian Cable Television Association. He also previously worked at Shaw Communications Inc. Stéphanie Brody is no longer at Look Communications Inc. She served in the company’s media relations and communications department as communications manager. Dean MacDonald, who formerly was executive VP and COO of Rogers Cable, will take over as president and CEO of Persona Communications Inc. He plans to take over the reins of the company this summer, if the CRTC approves the sale of the cableco to a group of private investors that includes himself. Nick Melatti has been appointed president and CEO of FCI Broadband. He has almost two decades of experience in the utilities, electrical and telecommunication sectors, including 12 years at the helm of Conelco-Fellmore-Fibercon Group of Companies. He has been at FCI Broadband since it was founded in 1998. In Memory Albert Gnat, a long-time director and legal advisor at Rogers Communications, has passed away after a battle with cancer. A partner with the law firm Lang Michener, he had been associated with the Rogers companies for more than 25 years. Micheline Charest, founder of Montreal-based animation house Cinar Corp., died this month at age 51. She reportedly died while undergoing plastic surgery a month after selling her shares in her scandal-plagued company. An investigation of the company revealed that federal subsidies for Canadian content were diverted to American script writers.
