BCE president and CEO Michael Sabia will step down as chair of the board of BCE Emergis and will resign as director of the board prior to June 16. On that date, Emergis shareholders will vote on whether to approve the sale of BCE Inc.’s stake in the company. Allan Adler has been appointed to the board of directors of Burnaby BC-based Info Touch. Currently, Adler is an engagement partner with Crimson Consulting Group where he creates a partnership, channel and go-to-market strategies for leading information technology companies. William Owens has been appointed president and CEO of Nortel Networks Corp. He replaces Frank Dunn, who was terminated for cause. Owens has been a director of the company since February 2002. Until this appointment, he was chair and CEO of Teledesic LLC, a satellite communications company, since June 2003, and was co-CEO from August 1999 to June 2003. As well, the appointments of William Kerr as CFO and MaryAnne Pahapill as controller have been made permanent. These appointments were made on an interim basis on March 15. Former CFO Douglas Beatty and former controller Michael Gollogly, both of whom were placed on paid leaves of absence by Nortel on March 15, were terminated for cause. Cesar Gaitan has been named VP of technology and engineering at Stratos Global Corp.’s broadband division. Prior to joining Stratos, Gaitan had 15 years of experience in the telecom industry with Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T Bell Labs), most recently holding technical and profit-and-loss roles in the Caribbean and Latin American region. Vincent Belanger has been appointed as full-time CFO of Lyrtech Inc. He is a chartered accountant with experience in the high-technology industry as a financial consultant and former CFO of Lumenon Innovative Lightwave Technology Inc. Tom Buiel has been named VP of sales and marketing at TeleDirect International Inc., an Arizona-based company that supplies customer interaction and predictive dialer solutions for call centres. He spent 14 years in the call centre industry beginning with Davox (now Concerto).
