Shaw Communications has appointed Steve Wilson as senior VP and CFO of the company. He most recently served for seven years as VP and CFO of a large global supplier for the plastics industry. Prior to that, he held a senior management position in the telecommunications industry focusing on capital markets and treasury management. CANARIE Inc. has announced the election of a new board of directors: Ted Dodds, associate VP, information technology, at the University of British Columbia, has been elected chair; Lucille Pacey, executive director, Arts Umbrella, is vice-chair; Gerald Brown, president of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges is secretary/treasurer; and, Walter Stewart, director of business development at SGI Canada and global coordinator, SGI grid strategy of Silicon Graphics Canada Inc., becomes past-chair. Cognos Inc. has hired Neal Hill as senior VP, corporate development. Hill is a veteran of the business intelligence industry, returning to the company after having previously served in different VP capacities between 1993 and 1997. Most recently, he served as managing director of investments at VIMAC Ventures, where he continues to play an advisory role. Previously, he was a senior analyst with Forrester Research. Ron Kitchen has been appointed chair of the board of directors of Minacs Worldwide Inc. He has served on the board since 1999. He is a founding and managing partner of Kitchen Kitchen Simeson McFarlane, a law firm in Durham ON. Axia NetMedia Corp. has tapped Peter McKeown to be the company’s new CFO. Previously, he was VP, corporate development for the company. He replaces John Maynard, who leaves to pursue other opportunities. Maynard had been CFO since September 2003, after serving as president of Netricom, sold by Axia earlier in the year. McKeown was at the same time made VP corporate development, a new position in the company (NL, Sept. 29/03). YAK Communications Inc. has hired Ken Carriere to head its Broadband WorldCity VoIP initiative. He comes to the company with 14 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He has held positions at Bell Canada, Sprint Canada and AT&T Canada. He now leads YAK’s broadband division, which stands at 18 people and is expected to grow. Ian Graham joins Bayly Communications Inc. as product manager. He has previously worked for companies such as Newbridge Networks, and most recently as a product manager with Alcatel. Patrick Walsh is appointed to Delphi Solutions Corp.’s senior management team as CFO. He has enjoyed a 24-year career in positions with companies such as Trimingham Americas Inc., National Telephone Corp., Ault Foods Ltd., Kama Group of Companies, Call-Net Telecommunications and CTG Inc. Hill & Knowlton’s Omar Khan has registered as a lobbyist with the Ontario provincial government on behalf of Bell Canada, for which he will be seeking procurement opportunities. Michael Hennessy has been appointed as president and CEO of the Canadian Cable Television Association (CCTA). He has been acting in the position since former president and CEO Janet Yale left the association last year to join TELUS Corp. Hennessy joined the CCTA in 1999 after four years as VP of government and regulatory affairs at Bell Mobility.
