Tres Wiley has resigned as president and COO of SAMSys Technologies Inc. for personal reasons. Chair of the board of directors and CEO Cliff Horwitz will assume the president duties. The company plans to expand the management team to address the future operational requirements of SAMSys’ day-to-day activities. Blue Tree Wireless has named four key executives. Jeffrey Speak has been named CEO as well as being elected by the board of directors as chair. Michael Ramsay has been named president. Alain Dube takes over as CFO. Karl Hantho has been appointed COO. He will be based in Great Falls VA, focused on developing the company’s U.S. presence. Blue Tree Wireless has also announced that Richard Belitzky will be corporate secretary. Shawn Lightfoot has been promoted to VP technology of Wi-LAN Inc., replacing Shawn Taylor who left the company for personal reasons. Lightfoot was formerly manager of hardware development at the Calgary-based wireless equipment maker. He joined the firm in 1996 as RF designer before becoming manager of the RF development group in 2000 and then to his most recent position in 2001. Prior to joining Wi-LAN, Lightfoot worked at JRT Communications as communications technical specialist from 1992 to 1994. Before that, he was senior process specialist at Japan Radio Company Canada. Sierra Wireless Inc. has made three significant management changes. Jason Cohenour has been appointed COO, Bill Dodson has been promoted to the role of VP operations, and Jim Kirkpatrick has been promoted to the CTO position. Cohenour joined Sierra Wireless in 1996 as VP sales and was subsequently promoted to senior VP worldwide sales in 2000. Prior to joining the company, he was regional VP with RAM Mobile Data. Cohenour also held sales roles with Motorola’s wireless data division. Dodson joined Sierra Wireless in 2002 as VP manufacturing and supply. Prior to joining the company, he was VP global operations for Gateway Computers and director of operations for Toshiba America Information Systems. Kirkpatrick joined Sierra Wireless in 2003 as senior VP of engineering. Prior to joining the company, he spent seven years at DENSO International America as VP of wireless technologies. He also served as director of the DENSO Hardware Development Group. Kirkpatrick also spent eight years at Hughes Aircraft as senior RF staff engineer where he worked on advanced R&D operations for spaceborne frequency synthesizers and receivers for defense department applications. Sierra Wireless also announces that Andrew Harries, senior VP of marketing, will leave the company to pursue a new business opportunity. The RapidIO Trade Association (RTA) has announced Iain Scott as its new executive director. Scott was most recently executive director of the Strategic Microeletronics Consortium (SMC), charged with bringing business and investment to the industry in Canada. Prior to leading the SMC, he was a VP at Mosaid Technologies. The RTA recently announced that its operational functions will be handled by Sue Leininger of Leininger LLC of Austin TX.
